If you are in bad economic times in your personal life the stock market is the worst possible thing to turn to. It has to be just a number on a screen to you, if you are too scared to lose money you will panic sell with the rest of the boomers. And trading like you are trying to be #1 ASAP will lose you a lot, a LOT of money and you see it here all the time.

I wasn't that loaded with cash when I started, I had just paid off my student loans. I started with some index funds & slowly got into individual stocks - which ended up being good because I have made a some pretty shit buys with, thankfully, a small % of my port. Overall though, my #1 goal has not been to make huge gains, but to avoid huge losses- in real or nominal terms. And in this schizo market, that has been an OK decision (for now).

By the way, there is nothing wrong with keeping up with stock market analysis, but you have to be critical. Like, I think Lyn Alden writes some really interesting historical analysis when she's not shilling cr*pto. Does this mean I agree with her specific stock recommendations? Usually, no. But everyone will draw their own slightly different conclusions from the same information.

The only way I would even slightly respect your Ecar position would be if ALL of it were in one stock that you believed in. Not because I think it'd make it significantly less likely you'd take a total loss, but because at least it indicates that you are cleared-eyed that only a few (if any) will survive and you may have done some legwork to try to figure out the most likely candidate. There were 100's of U.S. ICE car manufacturers in the 1920's, now there are 2 - think about what that means for a typical investor.

They probably are. Even from the little bit I've followed a handful of bloggers/analysts, all of them have different fundamental ways of viewing the market which leads to different macro indicators they like to watch. There is just so much information that choosing the "important" stuff to follow is a non-trivial decision.

The real key to watch out for in "experts", though, is to make sure to ID when they have a conflict of interest. Like, youtubers - they may have some interesting insights, but what makes them money is that you are watching. Or, mainstream finance journalists - they want to keep their job, so they aren't going to stray too far from the herd in their predictions (hence so many being "surprised" by literal free money causing inflation). Bloggers will want to shill their premium service or some other niche thing, I could go on. This doesn't mean none of these are useful sources, it just means you have to think about what they will and will not say.
