You do not fully understand the meaning of this true statement. This is the only life we have, but people still ignore this life in favor of abstract ideals like "being happy" or "being successful". You subject every life experience to the criterion of whether it made you happy, productive, whether it corresponds to what a successful person does, whether it's authentic, etc. There is no joy in any experience if you judge each one constantly. A picnic in a park brings no joy if gatekeep the joy it would bring by judging it according to whether you were "sufficiently happy".
They also displace their experiences backwards in time from an imaginary future, thinking that it'll matter on their proverbial deathbeds whether they were happy 30 years ago. If it matters to you in that moment, it matters to you, and if not, then not. God is not going to be wagging his fingers at the pearly gates, telling you that you didn't have enough "happy" experiences, there's no scoreboard where you can compare your high score to Chad's, you'll not regret anything when your capacity to generate regret (or even awareness) disappears.
We grip our suffering desperately, letting it dictate our lives, and despite me having told your these indisputable facts (unless you introduce the assumption that you survive death in e.g. Hell), you'll refuse to accept them, because the value standard you've accepted just feels "so right". The need to fulfill, to conform, to get a good grade is just that strong.
