Rice and beans sounds disgusting. What is really good though is rice and peas and salt and refined coconut oil (no coconut taste that's gross).

Ramsey is the boomer version of Klaus Schwab. How is "eat rice and beans" any different from "eat ze bugs?"

everything is bad
he couldn't give worse advice if he tried
yes you should be frugal but food is literally the fuel of your body you need to put in good things if you want to have good results in anything
living off of rice and beans to save $3 a day is just not worth it long term or even short term
it's much smarter to put a bit more money into your health so you have the energy and motivation to work and improve yourself
your body is your number one asset and something you can always fall back on and exploit if you keep it in decent shape: people will always need to hire manual labourers
if you wither away and rot subsisting off lichen and polished rice you will destroy that asset for a pittance and your mind will wilt too

this is a major blind spot for so many people
it goes beyond just food you should be buying decent ergonomic furniture especially if you sit at your desk 8 hours a day; you should be investing in ppe and protecting yourself from the elements; you should be keeping your living space dry and clean to prevent mould
it's very basic but people don't do it because they think they're smart by giving themselves back pain, sleeping in a damp room, and rapidly aging themselves to save a pittance

The advice is specific to people who are horrible with money and drowning in debt. Those same people usually eat a lot worse than rice & beans as is, so saying "cut out all the fluff, only eat what you need for sustenance and for the love of God stop spending and charging up credit cards until you pay off the debt" is fair enough advice.

>> No.53239238

>>53238301

The whole rice and beans thing is supposed to be temporary, for a year or two until you're out of debt. And nobody said you couldn't throw some chicken on the rice and add meats. The point is to eat at home instead of ordering out and avoid extravagant grocery budgets. Maybe that means cutting meat out of meals a couple days a week.

Or just buy the damn chicken breasts and now your $1 rice bowl costs $2 instead. Big whoop, if you're $50k in debt it's not going to make or break you. What would measurably slow down paying off your debt is spending 5x more money multiple times a week for the same bowl at Chipotle.

At the end of the day it's just advice, nobody's holding a gun to anyone's head and making them follow it. If you're the kind of retard who gets in massive debt and then struggles to make your payments, though, I'd suggest they follow most of Dave Ramsey's advice and programs.
