Mainly the companies and people who have too much debt are boned. Luckily a lot of people learned from 2008. REITs for example got fucked in 2008, and now are waaaaaay less leveraged and their debt is on average around 7-8 years. Worst case for them their growth just slows as they delay taking on new debt and instead raise funds to make new acquisitions

S&P500 fell 48% in 2008-2009
we are currently down just 20%
there is huge, huge room to the downside
we have had the market pumped with artificial liquidity, the Fed buying bonds & MBS for more than 10 years
to expect that 10 years of distortion will be fixed in less than 12 months is silly
the market will bottom this year, but it has not bottomed yet
we still have not had a bad earnings season
Fed policy lags by 12-24 months - we have not yet seen the demand destruction truly hit the economy
We have not yet had the earnings quarter where every single company fails to meet expectations
This is inevitable
The consumer is tapped out
2023 will get worse
but then it will get sharply better, as the Fed pivots
wait to buy until April or May
can we have some short term rallies between now and then? yeah, sure - some strong bear market rallies definitely
but do not grow complacent
do not think that it is over
we haven't seen anything yet - we literally have not seen the impact of Fed policy on the economy, yet
Again I cannot emphasize enough how ridiculous the thinking of everyone is in regards to the market, that since we've had this bad year, next year is guaranteed to be better - when we had TEN years of distorted + Fed intervention markets, where there was no price discovery, there was no alternative
Ten years of investing built on a house of cards
You cannot expect 10 years of mistakes built upon mistakes to be fixed in just 1 year

The "2008" crash started in 2007. Dropped further in 2008. Then the market dropped another -30% in 2009 before it finally bottomed. Same range with the dot-com bubble.

DCA is easy in a bull market. It's suicide in an obvious downturn.

If you feel you absolutely have to put money in the market right now, start with an extremely small amount like $50-100/month, 1 lump sum per month in an ETF like QQQ, and use it as an experience to get an understanding of the market.

Now that it's officially 2023 the following happens:
KY income tax rate falls so less green sucked out of my twice monthly checks due to state tax. The flip side of that; services are now taxed. Need a plumber? Get ready to fork out the cost plus 6% sales tax. The one good thing though is utilities are exempt from it. (long as you don't own several properties). The other thing; Wife was added to my health plan options so my check will be "cut" 300 a month. Are corporate bond coupon rates linked to treasury rates? For example when I look at this FB bond:
it says 3.5% coupon. With a face value of $100, does that mean you always get $3.5 every year until redemption, or is it $3.5 + whatever the treasury rate is?

No theyre not tied to treasuries. You have to read the actual corp bond to see what theyre paying. So You are getting 3.5% paid out over 2 periods and then FB will buy it back for 100 at maturity date. So you are getting the difference in current traded price and 100, which is about $7. So you actually are getting what looks like that 5.1% annually until maturity.

No, its not low really. It was high while fed rates were 0% for so long. At this point, with the rates the fed is raising, corpo is a bad deal until it catches up. Why take a risk on meta for 3.5% when you get risk free 4+% from feds? You dont. Corporate debt hasnt caught up with rising interest rates. Meta probably tried to issue those as a last chance while fed was at that level in hopes someone took their offer. Smart bond traders shouldnt have been touching corpo debt until it prices above fed levels.
