The problem with Delorean was that he got between the New World order and their plans for deindustrialization.
Ireland used to have car manufacturing, mostly American companies like Ford in the South and British and German companies like Volkswagen in the South.
There were also some native companies producing buses etc.
These were all shut down in the mid-1970s because the plan was for Ireland to specialize in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, computers and agri-business.
Delorean was the last major car manufacturing company to set up, in 1978. They allowed it for a few years to create employment and keep people away from political violence and generate feel good headlines.
They then pulled the plug in 1982 when it served it's temporary purpose.
