We already are in one for months now. In fact historically every time the fed makes an official announcement of a recession is when we are already heading out of one.

Checked and normally I would agree with you on being on the way out of a recession except the whitehouse tried to change the definition of the word recession the literal day we were first officially in one like we're living in fucking China and that would fly. We are not on the way out of this recession at this point in time, we're barely to the point where the fed can stop hiking as aggressively. Pour one out for the homies with variable rate mortgages and other loans, they're gonna need it.

Macy's is a department store, it will have lots of different stuff from different brands with different styles. I would guess though that generally their price point is somewhere around the same as Banana Republic. I don't know what kind of style you prefer though... but Express and Calvin Klein are also pretty good around the same price point. Tommy Hilfiger has some nice stuff too. They'll all generally look the same at first glance, but they do all have a unique subtle-ness to them. When I still cared how I looked, I preferred Banana Republic and Express

SMG is just a sheep pen ...

Sheep is a pejorative term for an investor who lacks discipline and whose trading strategy is unfocused and predicated on the suggestions of others, like friends, family, and purported financial gurus. Rather than following their own research and due diligence, a sheep mindlessly follows the herd, chasing trends and making uninformed trades.

Buying a house was a great idea during the Fed induced bond bubble that had suppressed interest rates for most of the past decade. It was an effective way to implicitly short bonds, and profit off the inevitable inflation. The Fed is explicitly targeting a 2%+ inflation floor - all risk is to the upside.
Even today, owning a home can still be beneficial due to the nature of fixed-rate mortgages. If rates decline, you can simply refinance your mortgage to attain the lower rates. If they increase further, existing mortgage holders continue to win out as they pay less than future buyers. Your mortgage has a free option implicitly built-in.
By holding a mortgage, you're paying a flat rate for the next 30 years that can only ever get cheaper for you (via refinancing). As a renter, your costs will rise every year.

That said, there are downsides too. You've mentioned depreciation/maintenance expense. The reality is that if you're buying a house today, you're likely buying something 30-40 years old, and paying as if it's brand new. Population growth has increased the value of housing over the decades and obscured the reality that these are, in fact, depreciating assets. Housing is a living expense. It is not an "investment". The long term trend of population growth is dying out in many parts of the world, and as populations stop growing there is less need for new homes. There is less competition for the present pool of homes. The whole paradigm is about to shift.
I believe that homeowners will still continue to win out over rentcucks, in general. Just don't go expecting your home to grow into some multi-million dollar store of wealth that you can later monetize.

Will see mom and step dad at his nursing home later this week when the flood situation in his building is sorted. Flood is fixed but there are fans all over and it's loud so they wanted to postpone. Streaming is also the value of owned content over time. A show might lose 99% of it's value after 5 years but frozen 1 my might be worth 50m a year or w.e. even in 2030

I think Disney has a good idea with how interconnected the content is or child focused which is evergreen. But yeah they have to execute better and fire some people with pink hair, but I doubt they do that as bigger forces kind of push media in that direction. Even random game studios in Japan have "ethics boards" who see to it they follow the culture directives.

Shares hold value better across an unknown timeframe and cost less to service, whereas since it's Disney unless they just run themselves into the ground over the next year they'll be back to making more money than you can imagine and pumping up their valuation. Unknown timeframe for price to go up + "known" timeframe when it could go down = long shares hedge with puts.

It's literally a numbers game where you try and play that 6 degrees of separation thing.
2. Scuttlebutt and gossip. Invite friends who are in the industry out for coffee. Ask them what they know about their company. Get google alerts on companies you want to work for, and see who they have recently hired and who has recently left. If a new position or department is created, at some point they will look outside the company for new recruits. How can you 6 degrees of separation that to get in on the ground floor. Basically turn into a OSINT ex-girlfriend on Facebook: stalk the shit out of where you want to work.
3. Host dinner parties. You don't even need to do them at your house, you can just invite people out to a restaurant although that means you have to fork out more. Curate the guest list so that people will actually want to come and turn them into very chill networking events with no actual pressure to make deals or connections. However if you pick the right people you'll sort of create this little mafia of connections that will later on put you in a position for a job

You only need to get hired once.

there is a huge short position built against TSLA, the second largest in the whole market
there are even more puts expiring January 20th
as the date approaches January 20th, the extrinsic value on these puts is going to wither away
those with puts will close them out rather than have them wither
market makers who sold the puts had to hedge their short puts by shorting shares of TSLA stock
when the puts they sold are closed out, they can close out their delta hedge and buy shares to cover
this further makes the puts and shorts worth less / losing money, causing them to close out their shorts / puts, driving the share price higher in a feedback loop
everyone in /smg/ has been parroting

I like you. If I was a more sophisticated trader I would have liked to simultaneously short tech and long energy is some sort of pair trade. A las I’m too lazy to learn how to do that.

Well, ChatGPT is completely useless. Asking for buy or sell advice will just get you a generic "I am not a financial advisor" answer. Asking for its thoughts on the S&P500, PEP and TSLA only got me stuff like "it will stay relatively stable in the short term".

It's got quite a few dinosaur zombiecos in its midst like Lockheed Martin that can't produce anything of noteworthy value. If it came to an actual conflict the U.S would bankrupt itself off the cost of war because their toys cost 10x what an equivalent weapon can do. Also Boeing getting into the flying suicide pod business.

I haven't really looked into either in depth, just picked them at random. I know that PEP has some pretty solid brands to its name and will likely cruise along just fine, probably too expensive right now to beat the market with it though. TSLA will in the long run probably fall in line with the other car manufacturers when competition catches up. No idea what either will do in the short term.
