Boobros win Tuesday! Deep red!

>> No.53004633

12/24 Weekend Notes

• The VIX remains lower. Treasury yields have rallied somewhat but have not finished their targeted move to 3.85%-3.9%. This coincides with the uptrend line on IEF and TLT. Equities (Tech notably) have not responded Friday’s move up in yields. The DXY is moving sideways at the cusp of breaking out of its wedge. Ultimately, equities look to have one more leg lower with yields hitting the upper target of 3.9%, VIX rallying substantially (20%)+ to test last week’s high and form a potential short term double top, and the DXY moving up sharply (1.5%). The confluence of a VIX spike, yield spike, and DXY spike will help catalyze the final capitulation low into year end tax harvesting/redemptions.

• Implied volatility discounts across the board have dissipated. Even Semis, which had a whopping 40% discount, are now only -9%. Numerous big caps are forming positive divergence regarding their RSIs. A bounce is coming, but it looks to still be a developing story. Financials are seeing a rapid increase in ivol premium. Defensives, financials, and energy look to be potential leaders of any near-term future bounce.

• The SPX is down 9% from its 12/13 high. Historically, the B wave correction occurs after the SPX drops 7-12%. There is a large demand zone at 370-372. Buying some of the aforementioned sectors at that juncture may provide to be a good hedge if the market decides to retrace 50% to the 393 level.

• Crude oil is in an interesting zone. A break above 80 opens the door to a 90 handle, but only if the 76 level holds. If the above thesis plays out, crude may backtest 75-77 one last time before rocketing higher. This coincides with one last drop in equities before a huge reflation retracement kicks off. Numerous energy stocks (MPC, EOG, COP) look exceptionally good here.

hard to say depends on how many stonks are in portfolio. short term like few years many can outperform market by sheer luck if you pick few stonks. most solid/biggest winners strategies are like people who trade constantly instead of picking stonks. but it's harder and requires more effort and skill. long term stonk picking is kinda dead anyways very few people do that anymore as it's hard to beat something like sp500 2x

Well buying and holding is less appealing now I would agree with that, but not because of the investment strategy being bad, but because of the way technology has made our society ultra volatile. We nearly got rid of taxis because of uber, malls got destroyed via online sales, car manufacturers are facing heavy pressure to change to electric vehicles, blockbuster got BTFO, etc etc. Technology just makes every single industry subject to major headwinds that challenge their business model that make long term holding of a company dangerous. Makes me curious to see the rate of failure of companies now rather than 20 years ago.

Momentum trading and riding coattails can make people money and is easier for them to understand than most anything else beyond "pick a company you like and DCA forever into that and indexes". People want to gamble, it's the entire reason derivatives exist in entirety. Are those people idiots for doing their investing, speculation, and gambling on the same broker or all via stocks and options? Yes they're complete idiots. There's no way in hell any country could deal with more than a billion people getting the flu at the same time without having literally millions of deaths and completely swamping their healthcare system. There's no surprise why they stopped trying to report accurate numbers, if they just had a dude on TV holding a sign that said "shit is fucked" in Mandarin it'd be more accurate than any number count. i feel like, and im being completely honest here, the main problem is that there are a lot of people who need to die. it's okay, and we need to all be okay with it. like, people protected by society from the laws of natural selection. and this is their reckoning. we're not losing healthy strong intelligent people to this shit. let the herd get culled, we'll all be better for it. this is financial advice.

it also sounds bad when you're like "a million people died!" but when it's out of over a million people it's really not that bad in context. MSM hypes it up a lot which i hate. FT is a liberal rag but they're great for financial news as long as you realize their bias. check out almost any given Edward Luce article and you'll know what I mean.

It's a massive wrench in the gears for a while until shit normalizes after, China held it off for a long time but they drove their people nuts in doing so and thus basically had to lift all restrictions all at once so it's ripping across the country. I'd just like to say I'm finished posting anything whatsoever at Reddit. I wrote what I thought was a pretty decent criticism of 401k/IRA maxing in relation to goals of early retirement, backed up with some solid math. Posted it in one of the personal finance subs and got absolutely shit on.

Like it was almost absurd how much hatred I got for questioning that 401k/IRA isn't right for everyone. And it's not like I was even saying anything I pulled out of my ass - I backed it all up with numbers.

but I did learn some things, I think sector ratios/rotation/divergences are interesting to track. discretionary vs staple, high grade corporate bonds vs SPY
for example on friday high grade corporate bonds went down considerably while junk bonds went up alongside spy. usually don't see that.

Correct! Good traders don't make youtube channels and they certainly don't share the critical specifics of their strategies. Makes me remember the infrastructure and building codes are such are huge deal when it comes to cold weather. That temperature is routine and no issue at all in leafland due to mandatory insulation spec, double glazed windows, beefy furnaces, water lines all run deep underground. Residential burst pipes still happen here (due to freezing) but it takes a certain combination of weather and neglect.

I asked ChatGPT to write a Christmas story about the stock market... it was the same conversation where I asked it to write a ghost story, so I guess it kind of merged them...

>The Christmas Miracle of the Stock Market
>It was the week before Christmas, and the stock market was in chaos. Traders were panicking as stocks plummeted and investors rushed to sell.
>But on Christmas Eve, something miraculous happened. A mysterious investor, rumored to be a friendly ghost, appeared on the trading floor. With a twinkle in his eye, he began buying up stocks left and right, confident in their value and potential.
>The other traders were skeptical at first, but as the ghost's bets paid off and the market started to stabilize, they began to follow his lead.
>By Christmas morning, the stock market had fully recovered and was even stronger than before. The traders were grateful to the mysterious investor and hailed him as a Christmas miracle. And as for the ghost, he vanished as suddenly as he appeared, leaving behind a trail of good cheer and prosperity.
