Tech is hard actually. Not the code side, nobody really cares about that, except techies themselves. All the business stuff that constantly changes, then there are people who try to "manage" you, mostly women yes, tech team is a equilibrium and it is very easy to fuck that up. Then there are absolutely great women too. But still tech is a constant fighting field. And it gets to your health, does not matter how active you are. In the end your health is screwed, so save as much as you can. At age 40 you are husk of your former self.

I think what OP is trying to say is that there are too many people that actually contribute nothing to a company that will be fired quickly after the economy gets worse. There's very little work to be done in most places. It's mostly just posturing. If you've ever worked for yourself you know the difference between working and bullshitting with coworkers to maintain your position socially in the percieved hierarchy of financial security that stems from your useless job.

If you're not learning hard skills right now while also strengthening your financial position, you're ngmi. im one of the most productive employees in my department by any metric, hours logged, jira points closed, glowing manager reviews whatever, and it's rare for me to do more than 4-5 hours of honest work a day. granted i'd bet if you took off 20 IQ point someone would have to work 9+ hours to get the same results, but thats not my problem.

On the other side as a developer I felt last few years like a slave being traded. Tens of offers in a month from people who just tried to make their "commission" on me. Like the techies were the commodity.
