Because currencies don't depend on things like nukes and territory, but on wealth and trust. Russia has already defaulted on its debt in the past 20 years, fucking lots of people that now don't want to lend them money. Inflation is running at 8% right now, your interest rates spiked above 10% last week, growth is 0%, and your economy is entirely dependent on oil and gas exports, for which the price is dropping like a rock. Oh, also US sanctions have totally fucked your stock market and are killing foreign direct investment. Not to mention the fact that your economy is totally corrupt (Putin can just nationalize companies like Yukos with no reprucussions), moreso than even shitholes like India or Nigeria, and it's no wonder your currency is fucked, too. I'd rather invest in just about any African country than in Russia.
