Right now the chainlink network works fine without LINK staking.

What's the purpose of LINK token? is the token needed at all? how is staking going to change anything at all (including its token price atm) if the current network works great without token staking.

serious answer only please.

i really want to learn about chainlink

What day does staking begin?

Alright then. I don't have a great understanding of it but the link token is used to compensate node operators for getting off chain data and making it into blockchain data. If you want to use a smart contract that is powered by a chainlink node you can only do that with the link token.

wait a minute.. what if chainlink IS NOT needed?

you understand that its adding MORE security right ? (rhetorical question)
I finally watched the conference of Ben on CCIP:

The most important part of this is the anti fraud network.
If you want to bridge all blockchains and merge the operations it means Chainlink has to take over the safety of the complete networks using their bridges.
A token that is secured by ETH L1 will have to be secured by Chainlink nodes instead.
Chainlink will become the blockchain of blockchains without a blockchain and the only thing that will be used to make people trust this is is their token used as collateral.

As more contracts use multiple chains the less value the ETH chain will have and the more every dapp will rely on Chainlink security to prove that their used token exist across multiple chains.
This will certainly become the main use for super linear staking.
You need a very high amount of staked collateral to ensure the security of the complete blockchain space.
This means that Chainlink now has a reason to reach a higher market capitalization than all Blockchain projects with a logarithmic reduction of their combined TVL because of super linear staking.
But it's not impossible for Chainlink to have a higher market cap than ETH one day with this.

so should i buy now at $6?

but right now there's no staking and the system works fine and it's pretty secure.

are you saying right now that link network isn't secure at all?

>> No.52514862

Staking has always been about preventing people from selling in order to pump the price up.

>> No.52514888

>>52514430
it's not a question of price, it's a question of time.
in two weeks time we won't be able to sell our link to you even if we wanted to because it will be in sirgay's belly collateralizing data.

>> No.52514893

>>52514413
So ChainLink isn't secure right now? Because it seemdk0rds to working just fine without staking.

>> No.52514918

So why should staking even exist?

The only thing it really does is allow people who hold a lot of LINK to keep dumping their stake rewards over and over, creating tremendous sell pressure.

this. its just like ETH

Sergay is a fat fuck who is too lazy to do anything. The only thing left is to watch sergay eat your liquidity away in the form of mcdonalds double cheese burgers with extra pickles.

currently node operators are incentivised to provide accurate data as if they fail to do so then they will be removed from oracle networks they are part of
a secondary layer to this is that many node operators provide other blockchain services so they would also suffer broader reputational damage
this has proven to be effective so far
however, as part of a layered security approach we as much security as possible
staking will mean node operators provide link as collateral for the jobs they provide. if they provide inaccurate data then they will penalise both economically (by losing some or all of their staked link) as well as reputationally
the introduction of staking also allow node operators without credentials to be trusted to join oracle networks more easily (often referred to as "neet nodes"). they can offer higher amount of link as collateral and build reputational trust over time
note that this will be implemented with staking v1, v0.1 is really to test the reporting mechanism (for inaccurate data)
