This is precisely OPs point.
If you take a hot chick for some eats and go pay with your last $70, they come back with:
>ooh we put it in the wrong waitress, you'll need to pay again
You gonna be fucking pissed too.
>JUST $70
its not, its the principle.
a shitfest is, and remains, a fucking shitfest.

Are you expecting a customer to double pay because of a wagie fuckup? Are you retarded? If I gave a waitress $70 for a bill and she lost it on the way to the till I'm not going to pay her again.

That'll happen UI side, as long as it doesn't happen on chain it won't be public and therefore won't compromise privacy

Yes and nobody is pretending this trash is useful for routine payments with the utterly trash UI, UX, and utter lack of adoption. It's been over a decade and crypto is totally unusable for anything "normal" in the day of 99.9% of the population and when it finally is even somewhat usable it won't be "crypto". We're here to gamble, simple as.

Wtf are you retards talking about? You are comparing credit card payments with crypto payments? Credit cards are a payment system, which can be used to pay in crypto or any other currency. It is not comparable to decentralization, trustless, censorship resistant, pseudo-anonymous, irrevocable, settlements like on-chain transfers.

On-chain is absolute power. If I want to sent my coins to the wrong address you can't stop me.

What if I want to send to a new address? Or for bitcoin a change address? This is low level shit though that the user will never use, its automated by wallet software. You are blaming crypto for some shitty UI that allowed this retard to enter an invalid address. And credit cards can charge in USD, EURO, etc. they could just add crypto for the downies who can't handle a wallet and need supervision.

the value is having complete custody over your money. the problem is having complete custody over your money is a lot of responsibility. It can be stolen, you could get scammed, you could lose it. This is the equivalent of cash through the mail in an envelope with the wrong address on it, they should have been more careful with those funds you have 100% custody of.

No one pays with gold or silver either. Its not that they've changed is junk it's that We're all trying to guess which tokens will be valuable down the line. Post has multiple checks on false addressing. Shit will get routed on Zip/Postcode but end delivery is pretty much up to the postman.
If the address has a minor mistake, or just the street but no number, theyll generally revert to the name or local area knowledge for a best attempt delivery. What they won't do is take a letter where a 0 got added to the number, whether manually or some copy/paste error, and toss the delivery irrecoverably over a fence into a vacant lot where that address *might be*, if it existed.

Thats the thing thoigh. Crypto is being used as hedge fund and speculative asset not as an actual currency. It has no future as an actual means for people to pay for things.

Its just something people hold in the hopes of cashin out to fiat and make money.

If you send something to an apartment building and you send it to the apartment 23 instead of the 32 and both numbers exist in the same building, YOU lost the package. Not the postman.
You can argue that the adresses used for crypto are fucking long and convoluted (they are) but if you are transfering crypto around you already accepted the compromise that the adresses are messy so YOU are the one at fault for not double, triple or quadruple checking something that you already know is the way it is.

How is it possible that you have not heard of QR codes, the crypto standard for payments outside of desktop systems? Literally no one uses addresses on his phone. No one would pay food to some address. It's been that for years already. Did you literally all join last week?

My local musical instrument repair shop sent me by mistake 500 € via bank transfer because I share the same first name as the guy he was making a payment to. He had to personally contact me via phone call to get the money back, as banks don't revert transfers either. He did the transfer via the bank's app that sorts contacts by name and phone number, because nobody is gonna memorize IBAN numbers and SWIFT codes.

What are you even arguing? Wrong bank transfers happen all the time. People make mistake with phone numbers and email addresses all the time even though those are much simpler and they use those all the time. If this is really such a big issue, wallet addresses could be wrapped around usernames, email or phones by a third party app. It's not an unsolvable issue.

By the way, I've seen people send crypto to their families in places like Venezuela and Argentina. If a bunch of old ladies can receive money through their wallets and sell it for USD in a P2P market then it's not rocket science.
