I got hired at the same time as one of my coworkers but I went to the dinners and parties and forced myself to socialize. I ended up get several raises and promotions because of this while the other guy got nothing even though he was smarter and more competent than I was at the time.
Also, free food and drinks most of time. Always eat, shit, sleep, socialize, and drink on the company’s dime.
