what is the worst case for some code failure in the merge? how much havoc could it wreck? will things get lost irrecoverably? are there enough fail-safes in place to roll back to the last state? i don't understand this technically, so please tell me like you would tell your nephew

They literally just postpone it a couple of weeks. That's the worst case scenario.
Merge bobos are all bad actors.

vitalik accidentally hits the selfdestruct button with his boner and causes a forced liquidation. i would advice to sell now to avoid further losses.

You can always fix and roll back a blockchain. Game ending bugs aren't really possible. In fact, devastating failures are easier to fix than mediocre failures. Because latter won't be rolled back.

there is a very mild chance that some holders will not become real women after the merge but i wouldn't stress out over that.

How did that work out for LUNA?

Luna/UST was always an actual ponzi scheme and once it broke down all trust was gone. What the fuck were they going to roll back to? Ponzi scheme 2.0?

To be fair Ethereum operates more like a US publicly traded fintech company with a board, CEO and their servers hosted on Amazon, rather than any old crypto ponzi. It's still a huge fucking scam having circumvented regulators and mislead investors, but at least they are professional about it
