The thing is for most things, above the dirt cheap level, price has almost nothing to do with quality. A $100 pair of shoes/boots could outperform a $500 pair. It just depends on the brand's quality and design at the time. At certain times you can get shoes on sale, for less than $100 that are just the best shoes on the market, functionally, even if you could spend $300 a pair you wanted to it may very be a lower quality pair.

Price has little to do with it because buyers for one are misinformed about quality, but more importantly don't actually care about quality and so the price mechanism doesn't work to incentive shoe producers to focus on quality to achieve higher sales or profit, instead focus on branding and marketing which is much more profitable.

For certain sneaker brands higher prices actually reinforces demand because people wear them because they cost more. Its conspicuous consumption. Its a kind of flex poor people do on each other. Its like a gucci purse or one of those hats with the 59 stickers. Poorfags think $500 is a lot and if you wear $500 shoes its actually impressive to a poor person, not embarrassing or gaudy as it would be to a actual human.
