Nothing would surprise me though if you take a step back and realize that if this is all true, then xrp is just one aspect of the next stage of this world. People are calling for Gensler to resign citing the ripple suit and LBRY cases. The economy itself(globally) is apparently hanging by threads, with the EU freaking out about winter approaching fast and suggesting extreme austerity(imagine what the people will give up to not freeze to death?). So depending on things, something like xrp could command a decent price if people see its value during the next little while. Hell, they could even want regular people using it to get by during the transition would make adopting that sort of system super easy. Everybody has the same reason to use it. Eventually one coin will be dominant for remittance, and if they allow it to be one controlled by a country outright, then that country controls everything. The same argument is how David and the team sell XRP to large banks. They simply say, do you want the industry standard to be one that nobody can possibly control, or one that JP morgan controls?

Realistically it was always the goal of the world banking system to have a neutral bridge currency. This kind of thinking seems to go back all the way to the 1940's. Except there was no technology then that could implement such a currency... they didn't have decentralized anything. That is a produce of more recent information systems.
