If it's something you are interested in, go for it. I have never done it, but I know friends who have, specifically one who was in it in 08. It's a harsh thing. A lot of people don't even want the best investment strategies, just incredibly safe investments. Furthermore, you are going to be dicked by your firm. It might not happen right away, but there are quotas to meet and people to please. Think of it less as investment recommendations and more how to manage peoples ego.

it's a sales job. they'll make you shill shit to your family and friends. and if you miss quotas, they'll be riding your ass like crazy.

what kind of salary would you expect for an entry level position? the 60k is for one where you'll still be mentoring someone for a bit

Are you actually getting a salary? or is it a commission only sales job? If its the 2nd one, run like hell. Financial advisor is basically a fancy term for life insurance salesman. They will make you pressure your family and friends into buying shitty life insurance and when you eventually end up quitting, your manager will end up owning the accounts and getting paid on the renewals. Selling life insurance is basically the male equivalent of a roastie joining one of those pyramid schemes and selling make up or herbal tea or some shit. DO NOT SELL INSURANCE, IT'S THE EASIEST FIELD IN THE WORLD TO GET A JOB IN FOR A REASONtkvk0

Essentially what I would be getting into is a paid salary 6 month training program with this financial firm. Basically to train me into actually having authorization and knowledge to give people financial advise. From there the interviewer basically said I'd just have to sell myself and be good at getting clients AKA all the quota shit other anons said

In bongland, we have to take six or so exams before you can work as an IFA or whatever they’re called now. Ultra regulated profession.
I’m not sure if I’m surprised that isn’t that way elsewhere, or if I’m surprised that we have to jump through a mass of flaming hoops to do what you’re being asked to do at the drop of a hat.

what company is it?
from what you said it sounds like you will be doing a lot of cold calling. Sales is a tough jobs and "financial advising" i.e. life insurance sales is a tough fucking job. you're basically going to be calling boomers all day most of which will tell you to fuck off. It's not impossible to make decent money doing this but it is really not for everyone

>> No.51165228

>>51165127
it's the same in the US to be an actual "financial advisor" you need to be background checked by the FBI and pass a couple of pretty hard tests. Most people when they get hired to be a financial advisor don't actually end up being one- they just end up selling life and disability insurance

>> No.51165310

>>51165196
It ain't life insurance but more just financial advisory - like planning esates, retirement funds, just helping people manage their finances

And yeah i dunno if it is for me, sounds like a thing you gotta be really inspired to do

>> No.51165331

>>51165310
dude, I am telling you now as someone who literally used to do this shit and regret wasting precious years of my life on this crap. Unless you have a FINRA series license, you are going to be selling life insurance to boomers. You will not be allowed to even TALK to anyone about shit like stocks, bonds, retirement funds etc unless you have a Series 7/65/66 license or some other equivalent.

Yea, dunno then. Get your 6/7/63. That should be part of the training. If not, what anons said are true. 7/63 is just a bs call center job that goes nowhere. Hood for a year or whatever. Never leads into anything more.

6 is sales. Can be high commission, but 1 out of 200 get a shot at that.

Financial reps are dumb - trust fund kiddies playing finance, analyst dropouts, easily 50% female.

Lmk if you have any concrete qs.

You have 4 options:

1. Series 6, HNW sales - unlikely, lots of competition about being likable. Can pay $400,000. 1/200 reps job. Most burn out in 2 years.

2. CFP - guaranteed 50k for life. Doesn't go anywhere. Series 7/6÷ is this bur even worse.

3. CFA / Actuary - need to study hard / go back to school, very competitive.

4. Other field.

Easy to get stuck on 2 for rest of your life.

"Financial advisors" dont advise. They sell Target Retirement Age funds. If you recommend, say, AAPL, you will be fired. It's a literal cog in the machine job to manage 401ks and answer questions like "Whats a put".
