I've travelled extensively other than the midwest US and Asia, but I came back to my city to take care of my ww2 vet grandfather during his 4 year decline into dementia. I bought the family house built by my great grandfather for 250 and it's worth 650k now. I've been to some beautiful places for vacations including Ireland, Iceland, Greece and Hawaii. But Maine and New Hampshire are still in my top 5 favorites due to the low population density and access to nature. This. I low key resented my wife for convincing me to stay in her home town and settle down. I wanted to move to a city, etc. But 5 years later with 2 kids, and it was the best decision ever. Wholesome small town, plenty of nature, access to cities and she has a large and close knit family so my kids are always playing with their cousins, doing outings, beach, hikes, etc.
