And then buying weapons with the proceeds to be used in Ukraine? I don’t quite understand why it helps more to burn the gas off than sell it. I thought natural gas is currently in high demand.

Russia is just selling the gas (Unrefined) to Loos and Chinkos and then after its refined loos/chinkos are just slapping a 'Made in India/China' logo on it and sending it Europe at a massive markup.

Nuclear energy really is the solution to the energy crisis.
The reason they won't let it happen is because it's not going to make slaves of everyone.

>> No.51136970

i've tried to explain this for months when the war started because it's quite important to understand the decisions by both sides that lie behind the facade.

russia doesn't gain all that much from selling gas, since they have been converting the proceeds to ruble since the start of the war anyways. they need euro or dollars for foreign trade, not ruble, so all it does is create demand for their currency and stabilize it in the face of sanctions.
so why did they convert the proceeds at all and not just immediately use the euros they get to buy weapons? because modern arms supply chains are very complex and sanctions make it very difficult for russia to find the trade partners necessary to build their modern arms at all. it doesn't help if you have cash but nobody is willing to trade with you. so they are limited by structural factors, not monetary ones.

now, the situation is that they still don't have much use for the proceeds, but the ruble doesn't require much protection anymore (in fact, the russian central bank has said that they'd like it to be weaker) and russia is still incapable of using euros and dollars to build arms. so they start using it as a weapon to hurt those supporting ukraine, in hopes that it puts enough pressure on them to make them ease off.
they can't sell it off elsewhere either because natgas is not really a liquid market. the gas mostly goes where the pipelines are, nowhere else. LNG is still quite young.

What they are burning is literally a percent or two from total production. Before the gas rise (so '21 figures) Russia was exporting around 108 Bn USD worth of gas to Europe (again, before hike, although these are future contracts, so hikes lag some 3 to 6 months before delivery). Meaning that the burning of 10M USD per day is literally 3% of monetary, but in reality considering that gas has more than tripled this year, it's probably 1% of production. This is perfectly normal, and it's probably cheaper than to store. Ofc there's some liberties with the maths, and I wouldn't be surprised if they calculated this poorly just for the headline.

TL;DR This is a shitty metric and it's just done to get a headline and a shitty article out the door.

You have it backwards. I debunked your nonsense about the non-profitability of war and you started talking about the blitzkriegs instead of staying on topic.
As I said, Russia made MORE money from energy than it did whilst not waging war and has lower interest rates than it did before. That gas is, as a matter of actual fact, not going to add more money to its' pocket. It will only bring the prices of gas down and result in a net negative for Russia.

energy is political, the world will continue in crisis even after the major powers use nuclear to solve /their/ energy crises, individually.
like if you think oil is not going to $300, and after it gets there you try to move the goalposts to "well it won't stay there/keep going up, nuclear power will fix everything," you're going to have a very bad time.

Friends of the world, cooler heads need to prevail if we don't want to continue the endless (and ultimately needless) cycle of pain and suffering. We have all the technology, wisdom and ability to truly create a "pragmatopia" on this planet, weren't it for what historian and anthropologist Riane Eisler termed the "Dominator Model" of society, wherein the excessive worship of the "warrior" archetype and "might makes right" meme are enforced and seen as the way to interact with one another.

We have so much in common and any differences or animosities are mainly the cause of the crudeness of language (nevermind translating between different languages) as well as trauma incurred during our lives which we never resolved and continue to subconsciously or otherwise blame outwardly on "the other".

Indeed, we would do well to try as we can to make those near and dear to us aware of the needlessly dire situation we find ourselves in, created by a select group of psychopaths who as some might put it "made a pact with the devil" for mere power and material wealth.

Ultimately, we all have much more influence over this world through our actions than we care to admit and it is only through the ancient fear of the unknown and the luxury of apathy if we find ourselves in material comfort, that we do not exercise our abilities to bring about change. I suggest all to look within themselves and see the child they once were and how bright, mysterious and full of wonder the world truly is. Traumatized as we all might be, cynical apathy is not the answer and we all can say "we are not going to take this anymore" and together forge a world beautiful beyond our imagination. This is not merely a hypothesis, but a truth just beyond the horizon. Will shapes fate.

All the best and, as it were, Godspeed
