Why do I never hear this talked about. It's good money, the work is satisfying for borderline autists (if you have the social skills to mask it), go clinical and you're never going to be out of a job and it pays well.

You can be the literal gatekeeper to research or private motives. You are the one that finds out what makes things ticks, if a study has met its goals, etc etc.

I didn't even start with mathematics/statistics to get into this field; busted my bollocks through university, internships and employment from that and built contacts.

Prove me wrong.

what kind of salary can you expect in an entry level position for this industry?

i majored in computer science in undergrad and got a masters degree in statistics and currently work in a software engineering/data analytics hybrid role, want to learn more about what kinds of math/stats related jobs there are out there.

What does the work actually involve. Im a doc looking to change career but im assuming any medical background is actually irrelevant.

Depends what route you go.

Salaries are flexible depending on your experience and qualifications, hard to give you an exact figure - changes with each place. You'd be set with a Master's in stats, and transferrable skills from your role would set you up nicely to lean on them.

Grind out academia and you could even net a PhD part-time with it all expenses paid, that's the route I've gone. Do that and you're looking £37-40k, not sure what that would be in the US.

Academic you're going to be starting lower and there'll be less wiggle room. Go straight to private and you're going to be starting very cosy. But in my experience academia is worth the grind for a few years because you'll get a realm of skills from jumping between projects over time, especially if you go into a multidisciplinary clinical faculty. Worth it for the long run.

Varies. Paperwork/meeting side would cover statistical analysis plans, deciding outcomes, planning sample sizes, yada yada yada. Unavoidable but not back-breaking.

Data analytics and the like a lot of the time, but depending on what you get into data modelling will be a big part of your arsenal. That's the fun stuff.

Medical experience would definitely come in handy and stick you out far beyond others. That background coupled with training in that would make you a weapon.

Ok, i mean it's early days but i'll have it on the horizon. I'm UK too and as is well known you get paid literally piss all as a doctor here with just vicious thankless work. Basically decided I'm not one to just sit and take it because it's a ""good"" job so i'm slowly developing ideas for an exit plan.

Shhh... Don't tell anyone about the field of statistics, let them get caught up in the data science meme. Keep the field secret you retard.

Only because you've never had to work a day in your life. It stops being boring when you realize literally no one knows statistics or probability yet they need to make decisions based on them.

It's kind of sad and funny. Especially when working with engineers.

I considered that but I don't want to live in Aus. I'd maybe do the US but it's a huge undertaking getting there as a UK doc.

What the fuck is wrong with bongs? My gf is looking for an entry level job in the field and she wouldn't wipe her cunt with anything less than $85k. That's around 70k GBP. Even medical data entry jobs (dumbshit job where you enter numbers into excel) are offering $70k starting. Anybody with a PHD in medical stats is looking at 100-120k USD starting and better if you're not a total loser. Google life was something like $150-200k base iirc.

We just have extremely low wages and such a high population density that housing is also 2x the average US home cost (per sq ft). Actual british people are slowly bleeding out of the country as browns are being pushed in.

>net a PhD part-time with it all expenses paid
Is this worth it? Could someone juggle a PhD part-time while working a full-time job? Also how's the university of Essex for an MSc in statistics? Its not Russell Group, but I read that they have strong connections to the data science/statistics industry and they're the only ones who accept my 2:2 degree. I could go to Sheffield too which is Russell Group but I'd first have to grind out a 9 month graduate certificate course to make up for my shit transcripts. Also, Essex just seems nicer and cleaner and has more going for it in terms of industry connections and opportunity I think.

Yikes. I still don't get it, I'm throwing out NYC/SF salaries and housing here is as bad as London. Is your tech sector just garbage? Immigrant browns can't do those kinds of jobs so I don't see how that would affect earnings for PhDs. In any case, good luck anon. Hope you make it to a less cucked country where your skills are valued appropriately.

Doesn't matter how good people in a sector are if the market and money just aren't there. The UK has poor economic policies, especially after decades with the EU. A lot is just increasing geopolitical irrelevance and it has basically survived only through financial services in London and accordingly those are really the only jobs that have anything like wage parity with other nations.

The UK would be the 3rd poorest state in the US were it to be one, with added san fran tier house prices. Everyone tries to grind out a life where they are from but starting actual medical work and being treated like I should be so lucky the NHS allows me to work 60 hours a week for it for £27k a year after competing for a medical degree has made me actively will to leave the country high and dry and go elsewhere.
