51016479 No.51016479 [Reply] [Original]

I am a lawyer with one of the most prominent cryptos. Everyone here will have heard of it. No, I'm not telling you what it is.

I began here years ago watching the moons of Bitcoin and Ethereum. With my fancy law degree and my advanced knowledge of the "legitimate" coins (thanks /biz/) I was able to sleuth my way into the industry. Now, I have a cushy job managing fucking idiots telling them basic bullshit.

But that's exactly the problem, and why I know for a fact that this entire industry is fucking dead once the boomers actually turn their sites on it. Even though I work for one of the most respected cryptos in the industry, the ENTIRE COMPANY is staffed by legit fucking morons. The amount of hand holding I've had to do, the amount of ridiculous low level unsophisticated trash """advice""" I've had to give just to get these imbeciles going from day to day cannot possibly be the makings of a revolutionary industry.

Take the Tornado Cash fiasco for example. Several companies (not naming any names) explicitly decided to publicly denounce the sanctions and not do anything to comply with them. You might say "right on man! revolution!" But not a single one of these fucking idiots will be around waving the decentralization banner once the first prominent ""EXAMPLE"" is made of a major project executive.

>>51016479
cont'd

They will all fall silent. Each and every one of them. That is the purpose of examples being made by prosecutors. To chill speech. The executives at ALL of the major projects have absolutely no plan whatsoever to actually challenge THE FUCKING FEDERAL GOVERNMENT when the time actually comes to defend the tenets of "decentralization". Tweets and likes will not do anything,

What happens then? When nobody can even publicly support your not-money-laundering services anymore? It goes the same way as The Pirate Bay. Tor. Some "dark web" space where all the criminals congregate. Web3 becomes FinTech: now with 800% more surveillance!!

Your industry is run by amateurs, and you have no defense against the long dick of the state.

In your professional opinion, what is the biggest threat to Bitcoin? The recent OFAC Tornado drama, which has practically flown over the head of /biz/, you hardly hear about it here, the total failure of ethereum devs to from a coherent strategy has me unironically wishing for a Saylor type figure to emerge on ethereums behalf. It will never happen and can't happen, because ethereum shares none of the sound money, truly decentralized, censorship resistant properties of the Bitcoin network.

So what do you see as the blind spot's of Saylor and the Bitcoin maximalists, if any?

Just because you invent some would-be decentralized technology doesn't mean the rest of the population magically turn into revolutionaries.

You don't have the numbers to achieve any measure of success.

They will target projects, teams will turn into government mouthpieces. The "truly decentralized projects" will become shady github repos maintained by 2 anon devs, one of which is a fugitive, and 99% of people will not go anywhere near them. The projects that don't comply will be made into examples.

BUT - here's the best part - as soon as crypto is railroaded into a new theater of regulation, that's when the market will take off!!! The government will incentivize everyone into the highly regulated crypto industry will all of the seals of approval necessary for dumb boomer index funds to dump trillions into it. And good luck getting people to rip themselves away from number go up.

The trap is set.

I'm also a lawyer who works with some crypto projects and can confirm that a lot of them are staffed by either boomer retards or delusional zealots who complaint about regulation all the time but don't do anything to either prepare for or fight it.

This is why I'm long projects like Everest that have been talking about this shit for years and are actually building to accommodate it. Even if you don't have industry insider knowledge it's obvious to anyone with brain cells to rub together that the regulation boomers are not fans of full decentralization and are finally doing something about it. Might as well go with the flow and invest accordingly to get your piece of the pie when they dangle the carrot.

I agree with the second part, about regulated "crypto" exploding.

The discussion gets convoluted, because Bitcoin is conflated with "crypto" when it is an wholly other category

Stretching the imagination, I can see ethereum railroaded into the theater of regulation as you say, and as we're even witnessing now. It's hard to believe, just because I'm familiar with ethereum and getting absolutely ripped off by gas & mev etc, but I suppose that is what regulators crave. Getting a piece of that pie.

It's also a mistake to confuse Bitcoin with revolution. It's just a new technology
