Suppose that a market maker sells a call option with a Delta = 0.16. The market maker can hedge away their market risk by purchasing 16 shares of the underlying security. However, this MTM loss will be negated by the $16 appreciation in the shares that the market maker purchased.

When a bunch of OTM options lose money, their deltas go down. This means the market makers who purchased shares as a hedge will sell BBBY shares to remain neutral on the options they sold. Gamma and volatility giveth, gamma and volatility taketh.

I've been trying to play ERs (on paper). My go-strategy is entering a position a few mins before market close and targeting companies that immediately report or in the morning, basically hold overnight and sell asap when the market opens again.
In particular I like doing synth puts with neutral delta; holding one night minimizes theta decay. Typically a position costs like $1300 (or has a small credit) with a $50 net risk, $200 return and reasonable amount of movement

I trade 2.5 weekly vertical spread on NVDA every week with a reward/risk of 1.0+. NVDA will bounce around $5-$10 a day so it’s pretty easy to pick the “right” 2.5 move on Friday the week before or Monday the week of.
I do anywhere from $500-$2000 usually a week, I’ve done $5k before but that was too stressful and I didn’t get a lot of sleep that week. All of these make 1x-1.2x profit.
