If you can go back in time for the purpose of restarting your career, what would you do differently?

I would tell my self at 16 to drop out of high school and start working for a plumber.
At 18 get into a plumber apprenticeship program. By 22 start doing side work on the weekends.
At 24 start my own plumbing company.
By 26 staring buying as many homes with as much leverage as possible for rentals
By 30 retire.

Dual major in CS and finance, take academics seriously instead of focusing all your time on partying.

Stay at Kinkos, making posters and binders.

Software development is not based or comfy or cozy it is godless work, I've sold my soul to (incorrectly) do daily standups with braindead boomers. All I do anymore is scramble from one tech stack to another because our lead is a spastic. We accomplish nothing, our customers suck and for some reason I'm forced to talk to them once a week to give a progress report, but they have no fucking idea who does what and just assume I'm responsible for everything (no matter how many times I correct them). Currently saving up money so I can quit and just spend a couple years developing some sort of freelance venture. Did anyone get an accurate impression of what their dream job would be like back when they were in school?

Really don't know which job I should be doing after the degree tho, kinda feels like I'm stuck in the middle with no specification

I would open an account in an offshore bank MUCH sooner. Do not use local banks for international transactions, no matter how small, you WILL be audited.
I'm apparently being investigated/audited by the tax bureau for withdrawing a couple hundred bucks each month to my account in a local bank.

I would drop my entire group of "friends" and I would spend every waking hour learning all the intricacies of CAD and eplan and a few other software and techniques needed to excel at my electric installation design job.
I would do side gigs and I would snatch that opportunity to buy a cheap new apartment in 2007.
I would also go into relatively small debt so I can travel with her and her best girl friend to Greece.
That's it. Would have a 100% different life now. Like some total utter normalfag.

grass is always greener. looking back, i wish i got into software development. im working for my father's construction company, and wish i was doing something else right now since construction doesn't really suit my interests, but if i was a swe, perhaps i would think the same thing after a few years.

i think cs and finance opens a lot of doors. you can do business analysis, financial modeling, software engineering, apply to fintech type companies, etc. i think a lot of people probably feel your way.

amor fati. kind of gay, but it means love of fate. love, or at least embrace. now you know what you want to do, and have learned from your experience.
