Hey guys. I've been reading about investments and shit and I want to start.
My timeframe is around 30 years (retirement) and from what I've gathered, if I want to buy and forget, it's best to invest into the entire market and not some select stocks.
If I want to DCA with about 1000€ each month, do I buy index funds ETFs like VTI or invest in index funds directly? If I do it through my bank, the comission for buying ETFs is 0.14% (9.90€ min), so I'm concerned with these costs eating up potential profits. What is considered a low commission?
The reason I first want to check out the options at my bank is because they charge you 0.008% (8€ max, for holdings larger than 30k€) per month for holding your portfolio there and it's just more convenient with tax report generation and transfering money to your investment account and back.
Most index funds offered at my bank (and all the ones with zero commissions) track those offered by MSCI. Is it a reliable firm? The one fund tracking S&P 500 has a commission of 1% + 7€.
The portfolio I'm looking to build is 60% US total stocks, 30% US total bonds and 30% international stocks, but it seems impossible to compose with the funds offered at my bank.
Do any euros here have any experience with investments and can offer some advice?

Look for broker and index fund that have the cheapest yearly costs, without outrages transaction fees, if you just want to buy and hold for 30 years. If you buy once and hold for decades it's the yearly cost that'll eat into the returns.
MSCI world as an index is reasonable.
As a yuropoorean if you have some kind of government pension plan forced upon you you could consider reducing the weight or completely get rid of the bonds.

Dunno about your broker specifically but holding shares has no cost at mine. Does have rather big transaction fees though.

Banks are often worse in my exlerience. They first take a cut of your deposit and then still take a sizeable yearly management fee.

Okay, this looks pretty good. There's a fund with zero fees and a reinvestment plan that tracks this particular index, and it's pretty much the diversified stock portfolio I was looking for, excluding bonds.
There are pension funds forced upon us, and all the pension funds are managed. I don't trust the local fund managers to know what they're doing, so I took out the 10k after they let us do it. It's not all of the money, but better than nothing.
I figured it's better to try out indexing, and in any case, with the way things are going in terms of demographics and the ever-increasing burden of old fucks, I wasn't going to see that money in the future anyway. Even if I piss it all away, the end result is the same. Receiving a state pension is a pipe dream for millennials.

Small and medium cap are consistently better performers over the long run than Large cap. The problem is that when I say "long term" I am talking literal decades. And this is the big reason they underperform small/med.

1) small businesses are the biggest drivers of economic growth and employ the overwhelmingly majority of people

2) large cap is popular and performs better in the short term. people jerk off tesla and drive up costs. Pensioners are responsible for investing in stocks that will perform decent for the next two decades and don't care about the long term investments because the people taking the pensions will be dead.

We are in an unprecedented run of large cap growth and this is always followed by small and med cap taking off

I think I can buy ETFs, otherwise they wouldn't be listed to me. The problem is figuring out how to get fucked with fees the least.
Buying ETFs has a minimum 9.90€ fee, but they have no annual fees. Some Vanguard ETFs are exactly what I want, but DCAing with these fees will very negatively affect gains. I guess I can just YOLO dump large sums once or twice per year, but I'm not sure how good a strategy that is.
The MSCI global index fund isn't exactly what I want, but it's diversified more or less in the way I wanted to build my ETF portfolio and there are zero fees when buying and selling, so I can DCA every month without issues. There's only the 0.3% annual fee to consider.
No matter what I choose, there's the annual holding fee of 0.008% of your assets over 30k, up to 8€ per month.
What about you, what are you doing in terms of investments?

i own some. they will eventually be successful, and no short thesis made this entire year has panned out. there was no SBC-driven selling flood all quarter, the commercial side of the business is growing as expected, the government side hasn't had so much as a hiccup. i expect they're going to print a pretty good number next week, but at the current rate of price appreciation they will be somewhere around $12 and that very well may have priced it in, if so. that's conservative sounding but bear in mind that the short thesis was that they'll go to $5, which was outright preposterous.

There aren't many alternatives. One is investing with Vanguard directly, but I'll have to check out if it's possible.
Another is buying and holding it all on some online brokerage with potentially smaller fees, but the brokerage has to be good so it doesn't get hacked or go under, and I don't know which one is best in the EU.
Holding it in the bank seems to be the most safe and convenient choice, despite all the fees.

Well the fee for holding shares sucks, I thought that no longer happened even in the EU. Some brokers / banks offer a deal where you can invest every month on a fixed date into ETFs and will only charge a few euros per trade. It’s basically a system for carrying out your DCA and you get a better price too. I mainly hold an iShares SP500 etf that has a 0.09% expense ratio (dividends are reinvested). I wouldn’t go for the world index, most things outside the US suck and I don’t trust their currencies either.

The broker reports everything to the tax authorities, so you don’t have to do anything yourself. There is a special type of account that allows you to sell without capital gains tax and collect dividends too tax free as long as you don’t withdraw from the account, but as of now the account doesn’t allow investing in etf’s, only shares in individual companies.
