The 100 Corona is 0.98 ozt. and has a diameter of 37 mm (just a 1.1 mm smaller than a Silver Dollar). It's also really low premium due to the fact that there's no demand for them, but they do have a really nice design.

Wieners have the same diameter as kronen and pesos .. but 100%gold will be a little soft of you end up dropping it, and the edges are sharp and uncomfortable to play with.
The 100 kronen feels nice, if you're OK with a heavier, thicker coin, the 50 pesos is also a really good one to hold in the hand.

This should not be worrisome for several reasons. First of all, you have no idea what happened in this case and so it may be a "one off". Second, whatever happened in this case happens so rarely that it is essentially zero risk when you buy from a reliable vendor. This is most certainly not a one off thing. Counterfeiting is not a part-time job or a one-time contract. It's a full-time job and there are most certainly more fake bars out there than you can imagine. But most people don't test their stuff and I imagine some don't even take them out of their boxes. If you read the article carefully, it goes to say that the Mint had previously an insider that stole golden nuggets, about $160k worth of them and the Mint never became aware of it. It's actually a bank teller than sounded the alarm. This guy was stealing from the inventory like no tomorrow. This means no one was actually checking the inventory.

Old coins are already overvalued based on objective valuations like # issued, where it was minted, condition, assessed and slabbed, or whatever else. Good question. In the case of the Hunt Bros, it was an artificial pump. I would sell. I would think everyone would sell. Such a pump would be temporary - until they run out of money or interest. But would bullion dealers still buy? I don't know. In the case of a pump being because industry has the need, that would be different - much more reliable, and I'd bet dealers would be more willing to buy at those prices.

Counterfeiters usually stick to generic pieces (not a constant). So a possible way to avoid this potentially happening to you, is to buy government minted coins; Maple in Canada, Britannia in UK, Eagle in US.
Also, there is nothing wrong with asking your local bullion dealer to test it for you, or to test a piece you're buying from them.

Also, I avoid buying ho-hum generic or routinely minted coins. These are the one that get counterfeited. If you buy limited-run items, the counterfeiters don't have time to create fakes that look real, and if they made them in quantity they'd be quickly found out. The idea is to dilute a market so they go by inconspicuously. The counterfeiters have enough mass-produced designs to choose from that the little shits are ignored.

The pieces I get from TD are tested by TD, so I have no reason to not trust them. The pieces I have gotten from SGB, I also tend to trust. But if I have an issue, my local dealer has no issue with testing any pieces for me.

For numismatics, I'll happily buy coins the next rung up from generic. Pic related. It was costly, but it was a first of the series (always a good bet), but only by 10% (for gold, that's a lot of bucks). The coin you're showing is easily twice or more (depending on when you got that).

I think the tolerances for COMEX allow for bars to be something like 5% underweight or have a minimum of 95% purity currently. If they're strapped for Bullion, they'll probably loosen them to 10% and further to the point where COMEX bars will contain some token amount of Silver while most of the transaction is settled in cash. I'm not sure how long they could get away with this sort of debasement, but it'll probably go on for a clownishly long period of time before they admit to not having any Silver.

The US is in a recession right now so there will be less silver demand through electronics and green investments (solar panels). If silver mining remains largely the same COMEX might be starting to recover silver.

Another issue is that as stackers are losing their jobs due to the recessions they'll be selling their silver to survive another day (this has already been happening to a smaller extent which caused second hand silver to be more common in my local area) and this would result in stackers that are still buying to buy the second hand silver since its cheaper than newly minted coins. This again reduces demand of COMEX silver and gives them more time to rebuild their reserves.

We still have a long way to go and the fight will get increasingly difficult.

If you are Australian don't buy anything international. There is ABC bullion and Jaggards in Sydney. Bullion now in Melbourne and Ainslie bullion in Brisbane. All of them should be able to get a decent variety of silver, there is a supply issue right now so it is hard, but very possible

You’re referring to rounds. They aren’t issued by a government and are not legal tender. Not all “generic” is bad. But the kind shilled on here like silvertowne buffalos or asahi rounds are absolute shit. Most coins have a lot of fine detail and often have security features that make them difficult to impossible to counterfeit. They are also very recognizable and liquid. It’s ok to have some cheap generic rounds but they should not be the bulk of your stack. If you want to bring down your cost average, buy 10oz or kilo bars to add into you stack of maples, eagles, krugs, Roos, Brits etc. Large bars actually have low premiums. 1 oz rounds don’t really save you much. So little that you should almost always pass them up unless there is some sort of ridiculous sale.

"Tin" cans, or more accurately "tinned" cans, are steel and back in the day were plated on the inside and soldered with tin to prevent the contents from destroying the steel. Tin is soft, bendy, nonmagnetic and melts at under 500 Fahrenheit so is easy to identify. Go buy some scrap pewter for tin to make your bronze with.
