It might be the photo but yours looks like it was drowned in cosmoline. The poor stock. Strip it completely, douse it in a degreaser (purple power), clean off, re-degrease, repeat, and hang to dry for 1-2 days, then feed it with boiled linseed oil one light coat at a time (it'll take 5-6 coats). It will restore it without removing any historical finish

It’s not too bad, it’s just the photo, I’d say it is on the slighter darker side, I have another SMLE that is dark as fuck, I think it was already very dark and someone put a lot of linseed oil on it that oxidised. I still don’t have the butt stock attached properly, I need to grind a screw driver down to screw it it, I don’t work in a workshop anymore, so I’m gonna have to find a way to do it, might go knock on a neighbours door and ask if they have a grinder. Dank, I was probably one of the last people in history issued a Lee Enfield, I joined the Canadian Rangers right before they switched to the C-19.

Call your local plumber and mechanical repair shops. They stack their scrap copper till they have a bunch and take it to the scrap yard. Just call and offer to pay them scrap yard prices and you will haul it away. Know what you are doing though or they will dump the junk on you and save the good stuff for the scrap yard.
