I wouldn't mind career paths as an alternative if you could actually live of them. A second hand house where I'm from in Australia 40km from a city, costs in excess of $800k, I wouldn't even get approved on a single income at $90k but if I did, repayements would have me living extremely frugal. Repayments wouldn't leave me enough to save. Whats the point with taxation on 90k a year I'm esrning something like 70k a year, 60% goes to repayements that I would be paying out my ass off for the next 10 - 15 years if I start a family. Which add another 10 years too, to save for retirements etc... by the time I'm 60 I might be lucky enough to enjoy life but I'm so old by then life will be harder to enjoy.

I mean its demoralising building a career knowing that. Everything seems so far away, the alternative is to get rich at any means necessary.

A career is also centred around such bullshit, its 50% ass kissing and riding someone elses slipstream. Going your own way is to much of a risk and can set back that goal above or better yet if you're very lucky and connected allow you to speed it up. At the cost of enjoyment and stress. The world is filled with so much uselessness that I wouldn't know where to begin.
