Will low level tech employees lose their jobs in a recession? Any 2008 boomers have some insight? I was just offered a government job making the same salary I am making right now in data analytics. $67k a year in OK so not a lot. Just wondering if I should take the government job to avoid getting laid off. There's no promotion potential so I'm hesitant, just like 2% raises each year.

Government data job is gold during recession.

Just get cozy and lay low for a couple of years.

The amount of stress you’ll save yourself from will be worth its weight 100%

hard to say, but they definitely have a better chance than most wagies because there’s always some shit work that needs doing in tech.

you should lean as hard as you can into analytics jobs and if you’re good you’ll be looking at 100-150k jobs, even in the flyover region. data is never going away, it will only grow

Id like to but id probably have to go the data scientist route

Take it so when/if you apply elsewhere, potential employers know you're already extra comfy and require a giant salary increase to go back to the private sector.

data scientists are a meme. a “real” data science job pays 250k and requires a phd and even huge companies only need a handful to cover each business unit at the most. I’m definitely not telling you to go that route, it’s shit

Hmm, so just push hard into learning R, more python, etc as far as analytics goes? I'm pretty much just in SQL and Tableau currently.

You'll lose your seniority so it's not completely safe. First people to be laid off a people who recently joined.

not if they’re smart enough. you could easily become a Web3 developer if you’re tech savy
