Dividing (American) socioeconomic classes purely by income is bullshit. There's undoubtedly cultural and psychological factors at play.

What I'm specifically wondering is, how would you distiguish between upper-lower class and lower middle-class? Because it's a fine line on the surface that's difficult to hash out. I feel like my family falls into that range, but I don't know what circumstances push it one way or the other.
