I got sciatica bad for several months back in 2020 because I just sat doing webdev all day then played tarkov all night being totally sedentary. Then I got fired because I was totally unproductive during this time because I couldn't sleep and was in pain 24/7 for months. So, don't do that. But I'm employed again now so whatever.

>> No.50090264

Hey guys, I know I am seeing a lot of back-and-forth on this topic, but I really need to push back and raise some red flags here.

Having an on-site office presence is foundational to our ability to drive efficiencies in a corporate landscape. It is in our DNA. Sure, there is no 'one size fits all' or silver bullet and some are just boilerplate solutions, leveraged to the hilt and really only keeping us at a 30,000-foot-view of things. Being on-site, however, really allow us to get better granularity, find better directional-indicators, or loop back and dive deep into some critical issues on a go-forward basis.

I think if you all start spending more time in the office again, you'll find yourself trending toward the positive, but you'll have to keep an eye on the puck. Gut through it, reduce thrash, and let's stay in lock-step on this. Yes, we will synergize!

What's the root cause of the hatred of Corporate office spaces? I'll put my layman's hat on and guess that it comes from movies such as Office Space and Dilbert cartoons. But we all know that these are fictional spaces, and real office spaces allow us to touch base in a much more efficient manner.

I have to time-box this comment, as I have a hard-stop in a moment when I will have to jump onto a call. So, just one more point that I want to cover-off on: let's socialize the idea of having more office presence and loop back to see whether we're being more impactful. From a management standpoint, I think that we can get the traction to do it.

So, net/net, ignore the naysayers, sidebar the folks that are stuck in the weeds, and don't waste cycles or bandwidth on folks that don't align strongly with this mission. Try it out, and we'll have another touch point in a little while to see if we've moved the needle. Remember, our north star hasn't changed. We're still championing our core values remotely and we will only do it better in person.

If you need me, I will be online again in a bit.

I’m not entirely certain on what the actual agenda behind this WFH meme is and who is benefiting from each possible outcome. Nevertheless, imho your take is correct regarding the socialisation factor. Yes, chilling at home and doing nothing all day whilst getting paid is really nice, but, as you mentioned, networking is a huge aspect in advancing in your career (at least in most of the fields I’m aware of) and if you don’t actually meet anyone that prospect vanishes rather quickly. Personally I don’t mind going to the office at all, as I actually enjoy the company there and it has proven to be a great way for me to advance in my field. There are many reasons why I prefer to work from home, but having access to my own kitchen is probably number 1 in my book.

When I go into the office I either toss some leftovers into a pyrex bowl that I can blast in the microwave for lunch, or I overpay for calorie dense food from a restaurant. When I work from home though I can make myself tasty balanced meals from scratch. Yesterday I had a slice of sardine toast with a side of steamed broccoli. I can't do that in an office break room. I'm in better shape now than I was before the pandemic because I have much better control over what I eat.

He does not know why someone would want to work from home and doesn't care to find out so he's just pulling ideas out of thin air to convince you that it is "good for you" to do what he wants. And what the narcissist wants is for you to be there in person so he can suck the life out of you.

He claims that it's "bad for you." It's not. As several people have pointed out in here they exercise more and eat better with WFH.

He claims it's bad for work life balance. It's not. The commute for a lot of people rips their work life balance apart by sucking 3 hours our of their day and adding a ton of stress. He's a rich cunt that isn't forced to live hours away from work and doesn't give a fuck that you are. Classic narcissist.

He claims that home is a "prison." Probably the most telling thing about it. For an introverted person their home is their sanctuary where they don't have to deal with the stresses of life and they can feel a tiny bit of control over their environment as they are low status and are not allowed any degree of control anywhere else. The narcissist HATES this and seeks to remove even that from you.

This man is a monster that has learned to inflict cruelty with buzzwords and a smile.

And to continue with determining that he's a narcissist you can read between the lines on how he hasn't even attempted to understand why someone would prefer to work from home. To a narcissist the needs of others are completely irrelevant and they often get mean or negative if they're forced to talk about them and will quickly try to turn the conversation back to the needs and wants of the narcissist.

He's grasping at reasons why someone would want to work from home because it's a mental exercise he's probably never attempted. He may not even be able to summon any empathy at all due to his personality disorder.

There's some truth to this, hence all the replies. I think the main question people need to be asking regarding WFH (as someone who works emotely once a week currently and enjoys it) should be "why do so many people want to do it?" I would wager that more and more people are demoralized and feel the urge to drop out of society altogether, because other humans and professional opportunities have become insufferable.

I don't want to go into work and hear young guys talking about Pokémon and Marvel all day. No, I don't care about the latest globohomo film. No, I don't need to overhear people discussing abortion. No, I don't need to be reminded about gay faggot butt sex for an entire month in the office. No, I don't need to hear about the heckin blackerinos every time one dies during a police encounter. And no, I most certainly don't care about pretending to be a part of a corporate "family" that is paying me less than they paid my high school graduate grandfather when adjusting for inflation and purchasing power.

Our societies are breaking down, and the problem goes both ways. Any sane person can see this once the dots have been connected. However, the easiest solution is to simply sit at home and wait it out. This is a large part of the reason it's so popular. It's a lot easier to sit on your couch and escape society than it is to confront it every single day.

Do you think I like having to pretend in the office or the laboratory that I'm not concerned about the nation my children will inherit? Or that our most recent hires for the past two years have been incompetent diversity picks? Or that HR will schedule meetings with me if I say just 10% of what I believe in conversations? Things that were completely acceptable and commonplace just a decade ago, mind you. No? Then why on Earth would I want to go into an office?

Yes, it's healthy and good to interact with people in person, but the people aren't worth interacting with anymore.

Humans were not meant to sit alone all day and only interact with each other through laggy 240p webcam feeds

What I find really depressing about all of this is that I used to think much better of normies.
I thought normies enjoyed socializing because they were deeply in touch with human connection and really understood the value of in person relationships.
Now they are just throwing it all away, I don't get it.
I still go in to the office every day but there's only ever 5 other people there now. None of the extroverts are there. They're all just sitting alone at home. It feels like part of the world has just died.

You might have to put in a couple years in the cage before getting WFH but yes, it can be done outside IT/tech. I'm in insurance, I'm fully remote and I make six figures (not doing sales or IT or management). Before the coof my job was hybrid 1 day a week at home 4 days in the cage, the pandemic made it fully remote. I'm always looking at openings with competitors and I see tons of fully remote positions in all different types of insurance. Some are still insisting on full time cage or hybrid, especially for entry level roles, but for experienced professional positions it's almost all fully remote unless the applicant actually wants to go into the cage.

If the job can be entirely done on a computer there is no reason it can't be done remotely. The only legitimate justification white collar companies would have against remote work is with entry level employees and wanting to make sure they aren't total retards first before trusting them to be competent remote workers. Any company insisting otherwise is just run by stubborn boomers who refuse to adapt to the times and extroverts who need to constantly be around other people.

>Get real friends outside of work
I do have friends outside of work. That doesn't change that fact that time spent at work is near 50% of your life. If you don't make the most of the time that you spend working then you are just throwing away half of your life.

>boss no longer has to pay to rent a building
>boss no longer has to pay for electricity, internet, air conditioning, water
Good, these changes hurt giant globohomo cities the most. That's the reason you're seeing people like NYC's mayor freaking out over remote work. They're losing their tax base, which means they're losing power. And it's not just office renters they're losing. Employees no longer have to be tethered to NYC or LA or Silicon Valley to work the lucrative jobs there, which will spread wealth away from these globohomo hives to other parts of the country.
>employees are now be monitored on their computers at all times
>all employee conversations are recorded
You can still call each other, which won't be monitored. And if it's the kind of company that chimps out over your mouse not moving for 12 minutes fuck 'em, they're assholes find somewhere else to work. Productivity and constant activity are two different things, don't work for someone who doesn't understand that.
>everyone turns into socially stunted retards due to lack of in person communication
It's not work's responsibility to socialize you, and I don't want to socialize with 90% of coworkers anyways.
>all work resources are now 100% remote which means you can just be replaced by some third worlder on the other side of the country at any time
They can outsource cage positions too, and there is only so much that can be outsourced before it starts to harm the product/company. Companies don't want Pajeets trying to close deals with major accounts, for example. Also, certain industries are Pajeet-proof. If you do anything that requires a secret clearance they can never outsource your job.

>you now have to compete with 300 million other remote workers for every job position
>wages plummet due to completely oversaturated worker pool
You have intense competition for office positions too. Wages might go down a bit to adjust for cost of living (if you live in Iowa they can reasonably say you don't need quite as much as if you lived in Silicon Valley) but you can still come out way ahead. Employers will still be competing with each other for talent. My WFH salary would be just barely scraping by in a big city but it literally puts me in the 1% of my small town Midwest zip code.

Find other ways to make the most of that time. I spend most of my workday doing chores around my house, shitposting, exercising and painting. That means when work is done, and my friends are also getting done with work, I have time to do stuff with them because I have already taken care of everything that has to be done that day.

my boss literally kept an eye out for anyone who hadn't eaten a donut. I kept putting it off and by the end of the day he basically forced me to eat one.

I'm pretty sure they do that so we don't unionize, anyone who hasn't eaten the sugar bribe is dangerous...
