I'm the original JXN shill. I sold it back in late 2021 (or January, I can't remember).
Insurance companies trade at depressed multiples for a good reason. It's potentially a value trap, but it also is increasing rate of $$$ returned to shareholders via those divys and share buybacks.

I'm not sure what to make of them anymore but I'm not invested in JXN but it's something I *might* slurp after a huge market shitting many months later. But I don't know.

Let's talk about that huge earnings dump for JXN in early May.

Do any fags on /smg/ have a deeper understanding of insurance than me (novice) have a good feel for JXN? Likely not. But I'm still clueless about insurance co dynamics.

I understand that JXN's capital buffer seems to have gotten thinner, but don't have a good handle on how likely they are to get into real trouble at some point.


Here's why I think JXN dumped: I believe the knock on effect of JXN having a TON of cash on hand is they have a massive book of assets & liabilities given the size of their capital, and people don't trust them to be able to hedge it properly given the fact they are literally in annuities.

Basically, insurance companies like JXN are to their credit risk. The opacity of accounting for these hedges that insurance companies use makes it difficult for investors to be comfortable with bidding up insurance companies to very high multiples.
