49574272 No.49574272 [Reply] [Original]

I just hit 25 and i just realized i spent the last 3 years of my life being extremely frugal and while it has made me ahead of most of my peers in finances, they have a whole lifetime to catch up to me. I even avoided dating the last 3 years because fear of not being financially stable long term. I am def comfortable now but i cant really get those early 20s back. should i start burning cash and enjoying life or is it just a quarter life crisis and 30 isnt that old

I don't really know why, I'd finally for the first time in my life gotten a job that paid enough for me to afford a 1 bedroom apartment in my small hometown that's been invaded by Californians. All of my friends are in other states, or a few hours' drive away, though, and I have no social circle nor female in my life to speak of.

I no longer see the point in living, my rent is just gonna go up but I can't afford a fucking house, so I'm just slaving away for nothing.

The better question is, how much time is money worth?
This generation the really wealthy people who are still fairly young will be able to live in good health for much longer. There’s a reason people like Tony Robbins are investing in all these new longevity companies. People will keep saying we are a long way off from the singularity of living forever, but in reality technology is already far ahead of where most people expect. There were already trials on an alternative NMN form from tri hills to create a controllable drug format tested on the US army and guaranteed to have been made available for the “elite”. You can go to Panama and have stem cell therapy to regrow all your tendons and ligaments to avoid the aches and pains or completely repair injuries that would affect most people for life. You can sign up for paid “trials” for other random therapies like plasma transfusions. You can pay for IV administration of vitamins and supplements that have good effects.
Sadly, this last 2 years was probably the last chance to make it, ever. There will now be a new class systems and if you can’t already afford and access this (around 50k a year) you never will. You are an indentured servant and you can only watch complacently and cope while life slips away and others pay to extend it. Welcome to the great reset.

Nah it's not a big deal. Whatever fun you think other people are having is really not that fun. You really want to waste every weekend on having a massive hangover because you wasted your friday evening binge drinking with people you're never going to see again? If life feels empty it's probably because you need to build some real relationships or meaningful interests. "Fun" won't fix that.

Besides, they aren't going to "catch up". Lazy people don't suddenly become disciplined when they turn 30. Instead of binge drinking they'll be binge watching muh shows and having "fun" with that. They'll never catch up.

I've always been a firm believer in
>It's not how much you make, it's how much you spend
I think it's very true. I think a lot of people make a lot more money than they think. But there comes a point where the effort you put into saving money could've just been used towards making more money. With saving money you'll always have a cap. Yeah maybe you can squeeze out an extra $2 if you buy a specific toilet paper brand but only after doing the math on it, then thinking about how long they actually last comparably. But is the $2 worth it when you could've spent that 5-10 minutes working on something to make money in a way that isn't hard capped? Life is a balancing act anon, start taking the amount of money you make an hour and compare it to how much you'd save in an hour and see which ones high. Then pick something to put that time towards that will make money. Fixing your own car might save you $100 an hour easy, but shopping around hoping to save $5 on a pack of socks might not be

The law of diminishing returns is a thing, as you get older everything gets less interesting. Women, sex, partying etc.
You need to get some of this in your 20s as its not the same in your 30s or older. You body cant handle it as much and also you wont hit as high dopamine levels.
You dont need to go out every weekend for years, but make sure to get in some good weekends in your 20s as you can never get those feelings again once your 20s are over.

It's entirely subjective, but it's the way it goes. Most people have to work for financial independence and that requires sacrifice. On the flip side, as a 30 something year old millennial who was not financially savvy in my 20's, I really regret it. Yes, I had some good times, but I'm paying for it now. No, I'm no destitute and broke, yes I have solid investments, but if I had just focused on school, gotten a good job, been more frugal and invested better, I'd likely have closer to 7 figures right now instead of mid 6 figures. Again, who knows, there's pros and cons to each situation.
