Redpill me on "engineering". What exactly do engineers do?

Someone figured out that if the economy is always growing then spending less money now and more in the long run is better than spending loads of money now. Oh and someone else figured out slavery was bad, hence the increase in cost.

Engineers are even more useless to society than landlords. Why can't they just admit they're basically just another "middle management" position? They're basically nothing more than vaguely defined "coordinators" who take credit for the work of others. The only "work" they put in is the planned obsolescence. Knowing how to include planned obsolescence in your projects and products is not a skill.

Engineering can be summed up in two sentences. If it breaks, make it stronger. If it doesn't break, make it weaker. That's about all there is to it. Anyone can build a bridge that stands forever, but only an engineer can build a bridge that just barely stands and is planned to be obsolete and need repairs in exactly 10 years. Why would a company intentionally miss out on money and profits by designing a permanent product instead of a product that needs constant updating.

If you put a tender out for a road that lasted forever contemporary engineers would destroy the romans. Local governments don't tender by that criteria.

close but still wrong, it should be:

If it breaks, make it stronger. If it doesn't break, make it cheaper.

And this is how you can buy cheap but good clothes (or fruit, or whatever) while 2 centuries ago the same thing are only accessible to the nobility class.

Seething medfags and/or blue collar itt? Engineering is responsible for every modern convenience you take for granite. Fuck I hate retard blue collars who can't follow the simplest SoP, I even put colourful diagrams in to keep them interested but no instead you use the machines in a way that means I have to come down and fix it every other day blithering brainlets; and medfags holy moly do medfags even realise that engineers are responsible for the +50 years to life expectancy via clean water and infrastructure, not to mention all the medical equipment they use without thinking how it was made? Most engineers copy paste work online or into existing spreadsheets and CAD files. Almost no engineers you know understand math and science well, and could design something new from scratch.

Traditionally there was a stronger divide between technicians and engineers and engineering was much harder and had higher expectations. With the "everyone must be a college graduate" meme the technician space has evaporated.

This is true of comp sci as well.

Some of the ancient people were, contrary to modern youth and especially of the liberal shit kind, vastly more intelligent and valued than today's niggerized population. They created entire languages, spoken and written, painted philosophical masterpieces, philosophized about the nature of being, deduced laws to make the best of societies and make civilization possible, deduced mathematical tools and models. Many of today's intelligent people often don't fit in and get ostracized. Now you need some academia degree and even the most genius idea and implementation thereof will just get rejected and discarded if you aren't one of their kin and question their authority instead of paying attention and spending time which they claim not having which means not having time only for you.

yeah, the roads are designed to fail. only when it's untenable do they make a road last, and that's going to be highways and bridges. and even then the highways are also made to bare minimum standards.

We can make concrete last so much longer than it does, but then all the construction grugs wouldn't have jobs.
