Watch this, a 50 minutes of a fucking lawyer saying why NFT are a scam.

Basically, you can't buy and sell the copyright ownership of an art piece, acording to law.
And art generated by a computer can't be copyrighted because copyright only apply to humans.

So basically you're buying something you're not the owner, more than me buying harry potter book doesn't make me the legal owner of the copyright of harry potter.

So, basically he says that you're not buying something that can be legaly protected, as current law contract theory can't protect hyperlinks, more that they can't protect you if you buy an english word.

And square enix sold tomb raider for this.
LMAO!!!!!!

Yes they're a scam, but this pedo retard doesn't know what NFTs are if he thinks it's about ownership of a picture.

I'm a lawyer and I think this is retarded. Zoomer NFT collectors aren't spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to sue each other over copyright infringement in court that will take 5+ years to resolve. That is peak Boomer behaviour.

Pro tip: you can find and pay a lawyer to say whatever the fuck you want. Never assume a lawyer is telling you the truth.

in the real world there are already legal means of owning the copyright to something. copyright only works within the system that maintains it, it doesn't work outside of that system. so a country that doesn't recognize other country's copyrights isn't affected by those rules. since crypto operates outside of the purvey of all governments, government won't recognize someone as the "official" owner of an nft.

magic the gathering cards are basically nfts, since it's not actually that hard to counterfeit them but then they're not "official" and you cant sell them or use them in tournaments (unless you don't get caught).

the problem is nobody cares if a purely visual nft is official. celebrities PRETEND to care because the whole nft "bubble" is just a scam to get normans to buy them, as well as a money laundering operation, a la modern art. (selling a black canvas for $500m, etc.)

This is the real answer. /biz/ spends a year calling (APE, DOGE, etc.) coin a scam while people make money off it, then when it finally crashes (as the entire market implodes) they celebrate and say look we were right.

Laws are changed and this hasn't gone to a law place yet. I've seen royalties for real things being sold as NFTs
https://auctions.royaltyexchange.com/orderbook/overview/?origin=listings
I'm not gonna watch 50 minutes of this guy say spicy things for views. Let's be clear though that an NFT in itself doesn't mean you can just mint it and call it a copyright. (Hence why you can't mint an NFT of the Mona Lisa and say you own the mona lisa, because you don't) but if you sell your shit with an NFT and claim that the NFT is the right of that, then that's gonna hold up just fine in court, but it's gonna be an expensive case since it would be precedent setting so here we are.

A lot of NFTs clearly state you own the rights to it and can use it how you want. I guess the conflict would be someone else trying to use "your NFT."

Who said you're buying the copyright? That always belongs to the artist unless they died long ago and the artwork has moved into the public domain.

If I buy a physical painting I just own a copy of it that was created with the permission and blessing of the artist. I can sell that copy to someone else, but I can't legally create duplicates or additional copies. NFTs just ensure the authenticity of the "official" copies released by the copyright owner for digital artwork.

Lawyers are arguably magnitudes worse in every aspect than a shitty journalist. Journalists at the very least produce gossip. LAWYERS MAKE NOTHING, ITS AN INSTITUIONALIZED SCAM, KIND OF LIKE REAL ESTATE AGENTS, AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT ONLY EXISTS BECAUSE BULLSHIT LAWS.

You're not really buying the image. You're buying the title to it, or the certificate of authenticity. You're buying the ledger entry.

People will say shit like "hurr durr you're buying a link on the blockchain" -- but all that really matters for value is that you own the rights to that specific space on the blockchain, which is perceived as valuable to others.

That's why all the "haha right click save" idiots look look extra stupid, because it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the technology.

If you still think the only form an NFT can come in is a useless JPEG you buy, then you're an idiot. Proof of ownership of certain NFTs can mean special access or benefits that someone who right click saves can't receive. Membership to certain exclusive clubs can be sold as an NFT. The title to your house could be an NFT
