I went out to eat with my gf the other night and our waitress was shit - didn't get us drinks for ten minutes, took another five minutes to take our order, gave us each other's dish when the food finally came out, let our drinks get too low more than once, and took forever to come give us the check. At the end, my gf insisted that we still trip at least 20% because "service industry workers live off of tips!"

When the fuck did it become my responsibility to subsidize a business that would otherwise fail if it didn't use customers as payroll? And when did it become the norm to expect friends and family to adhere to this? Millennials and Gen Z are absolutely brainrotted if they think the solution to wagie life is enabling shitty business owners. Why in the world should I give an extra 1/5 the price of the meal to a person who agreed to work a shitty job for shitty money when they can't even keep my water cup topped up? And without fail, the owners of these places always have nice new cars and live in nice houses, while somehow getting off the hook for paying their employees dirt wages.

Anon refusing to tip in front of your date makes you look like a cheapskate, even if it's justified. In fact it's worse if it's justified because you look like a pussy who can't confront problems directly.

Next time you get bad service, flag down a different waiter/ess and say you want to speak to the manager. Detail every slight you've received so far, calling out the bad waiter/ess by name, and insist on better service or you're leaving. If he tries to backtalk you at all or is in any way less than 100% apologetic, take your date and leave and go to some other place.

There are several benefits to this:
>you don't wind up tipping
>you look alpha to your date
>you don't suffer bad service
>you might get your entire meal comped

If you let your date make it seem like it's about money, you've already lost. You need to make it about your pride and the poor service which you don't deserve.

Doesn't matter what I spend, I tip $2 per person i'm paying for if the service was good. The only reason I tip more is if I get free stuff, like they forgot to add the drinks.
