That's what I said too. I figured with its volatility, there was some room to continue making money, but if its general trend is downward, I'm not touching it again.

It's time to stop living in the past and trying to justify the drop in price. If google's stock dropped in half you wouldn't say it's no big deal just because it's still higher than what it was when they started off.

I remember the crash to $2 when someone posted a troll thread in /pol/ that was very similar to this one. It had almost the exact same structure, actually.

>$2
ALL CAPS SOMETHING SOMETHING MICKEY MOUSE CURRENCY IS OVER FAGS

So my question is: Is this a reference to the drop to $2, or are you the same OP, or is it just that the poor anti-bitcoin trolls are the exact same in 2014 as they were in 2011?

Serious question.

Dumb question:

What if the price crashes below the cost-to-mine? Like, imagine the price falls to $300 and the average cost of mining a bitcoin is $500.

If every miner stopped working, what would happen? Surely this is a big risk now.

Market is always relatively efficient, you wont have upside down fundamentals like that for bitcoin. Market participants wont allow prices to get too wacky without a lot of mis information going around.

With less competition mining would get easier for the remaining miners, so they would be getting more btc./$spent on electricity.

if less people mine, the cost to mine (hardware [since miners are only as valuable as the product they mine]) decreases. the difficulty to mine also decreases, making the mining still valuable

if theoretically the price of bitcoin becomes $0 then nothing matters anymore and those with coins essentially lose their assets. I don't think it'll happen though, there's already a market set up and crypto currency is a great idea. remember the value of money is what people think its worth

>> No.447708

>>447278
used to always be more expensive to mine than it was worth. the prospect of future increase in value was what drove interests in mining

>> No.447741

>>447278 here

>>447425
nope, I'm new to this. I've read however that the difficulty might take weeks to adjust, which means that if many miners leave, the others will just have to work harder (takes longer/more electricity to mine one block), and so more will quit, etc.

Hopefully the network can be resilient to this.

>>447449
I hope that when adoption gets out of limbo, and bitcoin starts going mainstream, people will be much more confident in it and we can see the price soar again.

Bitcoin will die one day, no one is delusioned enough to think it won't. But I'm confident something else will take its place.

But let's assume for a minute that cryptocurrency will die. Why not milk it for as long as you can and reap the benefits? It's like an opportunity and you just wave as it passes by.
