What would happen to the institutions that make up this country if the population said "no" to debt?

all usd is borrowed from the fed then fr in banks. we have a debt based economy. if we got rid of all debt by definition we would get rid of all usd

if it was a big enough concerted effort, they would be forced to file bankruptcy causing another bail out situation most likely (further USD) debasement.

smart people are already saying no to debt. if you are paying creditors you are just dumb, end of story.

Understood, but this is theoretical.

What would collapse? What would change?

>Students stop going to school
>People stop using credit cards (cultural changes)
>People held onto cars longer (cultural change)
>Volatility and debt burdened millennial never purchase homes.

How would that play out?

Would we collapse hard?

Can we not develop capitalism that does not rely on debt?

Nations where the average networth to debt ratio is higher or more proportional versus the US are plainly countries with higher quality of life. The consume consume consume and buy shit you have to replace due to planned obsolescence and marketing tricks is not buying us into happiness.

Could the burden not be shifted onto other nations?

Our consumption and therefore debt is literally propping up the rest of the world.

>Drugs- High drug prices, cost shift onto the American market for R and D.
>Technology- we have the latest and greatest but at a cost. You don't even have the option of buying a "less" advanced smart phone, whereas the rest of the world has that option.
>Vehicles- We have shitty domestic vehicles and shitty version of foreign cars, they don't need to make good shit they dont even care about making cars, they are literally banks and finance centers that produce vehicles on the side.
>Education- Do we need to go there? We fund the biggest institutions that "benefit" the world in terms of academics at the cost of 18 year old kids trying to become something in the world.

unrelated but does anyone have that website that shows the spot price of gold in the west and east, and how if they're too different the market is going to collapse or something?
