Yeah nah, even crappy alts regularly can recover after a few weeks.

The rules for alts are
1) Never buy at ATH
2) Never buy high marketcap alts unless it's immediately after a large dip
3) Never buy an alt that was once in the top ~30 or so and has been dwindling ever since
4) Never buy "gamer tokens"

Follow these rules and it's usually safe/profitable to hold for at least a week or two at a time.
