USA isn’t that bad. I dig it, but it depends on whether or not you live in a free state. We are hurdling toward a 70 percent mocha skinned Brazil 2.0 with extra globohomo future ruled by the Chinese though. No too different than the rest of the world.

What really blows my mind is the revolutionary war was sparked due to a tea tax and the phrase “no taxation without representation”. How did we get so cucked as a country that we are taxed on income earned, and then taxed again in every which way. Buy something? Taxed. Make money on investments? Taxed. Live on land you own? Taxed. Die? Taxed. Considering the average empire last 250 years and America is at 245, what is the breaking point where enough people say enough? It wasn't a blatantly stolen election. It’s not getting taxed into oblivion. What is the breaking point bros?

The Revolutionary War was sparked a lot more by Britain's crackdown on free press, refusal to allow colonial representation in parliament, general rollback on colonial self-rule after promising greater autonomy, forced quartering of soldiers during times of peace, and general sentiment that the colonies were being treated as occupied territory rather than as an extension of Britain herself. The Declaration of Independence spends far more time covering these issues than anything regarding taxes. "No taxation without representation" became a meme because it's a fun rhyme and because it simplified the complex issues that led up to the war for grade schoolers.

>this is an American problem
Name one state that doesn't claim the special, exclusive moral authority to tax you at a rate and in a currency it defines. I'll wait.

America died at Gettysburg. What you live in is the USA.

This desu, the phrase itself was speaking more about a lack of representation in Parliament than the taxation angle. Taxes contributed to the Revolution, but they weren't the driving cause behind it.

Your country is too big. It'll never be truly free in it's current size. Americans are too proud to admit this. If there was a collection of smaller independent countries, then those countries would be forced to compete with each-other to provide better terms for their populations.

Same goes for the EU - too big. Easy to restrict freedoms in super states. People are less inclined to move 5000 km away to another country than 500 km away.

You actually can’t leave. Every inch of land is owned by large governments now. There is no new frontier. If you were somehow rich enough to buy land from another country, and attempt to create your own country, you will be isolated, sanctioned and your legitimacy wouldn’t be recognized by the UN. If you became too successful despite this, you’ll be made into a villain rogue state and invaded by a much more powerful army or the UN. There is no escape, and you’ll never truly be free.
