So it's a bit of a tricky conundrum: either you say to yourself "I invested prudently" and don't declare anything (risking being accused of tax evasion fraud), or you try to be careful and declare your (crypto) investment earnings anyway.

If you go down the second route, thinking "I'm being nice here, surely they'll reward my good behavior", you are dead wrong.

It gets taxed as income. Period. Look up the tax chart, determine how much you made and compare to your tax exposure. If you made $50k at a regular job, then $50k PROFIT (that’s all that is taxed) then your tax exposure would be $100k and that’s how you would be taxed. There’s a standard deduction of $12k I think and your first $13k aren’t taxed. If you donated anything significant or have a mortgage you can deduct from your taxable income.
