In stocks on my long term holdings I like a 50/50 VTI/VT mix. This is (currently) about the equivalent of 70/30 VTI/VXUS but will require require less frequent balancing since VT's largest holding are the same as VTI.
For bonds (which I dropped for more pm's lately) you have the same relationship, 50% BND, 50% BNDW.
For REITS, I actually do the standard 70/30 VNQ/VNQI.

Overall I am 50% crypto and speculative stocks balanced against a 50% portfolio of 60% Stocks, 20% PM, 20% REITS. Crypto and penny stocks could goto zero and I would still be up about 400% this bullrun.

>> No.30090451

almost exclusively in TSX companies so I don't have to pay capital gains in my TFSA, mostly energy and utilities sectors, suncor is still waaaaaay undervalued.

20% REIT is high given the relative correlation with equities. Since you have so much crypto and pms, wouldn't it be a drag on the strategy of your portfolio?

Also, 40/40/20 btc/ethe/alts?

All in is the only correct answer to the optimal portfolio allocation.
Diversification is for people who have no clue what they're doing
Smart people have alpha and don't need to play a guessing game with useless stats only to end up getting market return which will get beat by real inflation anyway

Perhaps but I still consider REITs to be a stable asset compared to my more speculative holdings, I also got in quite cheap, like mid-March cheap.
As for crypto I was in ETH/ADA/ALGO and various flip candidates, but culled it down to 60K$ in ADA and 20 in ALGO, staking long term. Cashed out my 32 Eth at 1600 to maintain the balance, about 80k in etfs/pm's/reits and an additional 10k in random /biz/ plays where I have already cash out my initial and am hanging on to the remainder risk free. (Bayhorse, TSNP, and SILJ for example)

I keep a 401k with a more traditional 60/40 stocks bond split but not counting that here. All and all 2020 has been very good to me.

I have long term strategic idea of 1/3 US stocks, 1/3 intl developed stocks, 1/3 emerging market stocks but lately I have been buying only the min in 401k USA stocks and maxing out purchases of EM stocks. Want to get all money possible out of USD as I think it's in for a period of severe and prolonged weakness.

>> No.30096002

>>30090335
Vanguard bond funds are USD holdings or hedged to USD. No currency diversification.
Bonds suck and have negative expected returns. Rather own PMs or commodity fund.
Buying US and world fund is retarded. Why not buy US and ex US fund? It makes it harder to rebalance and you have >75% in US stocks right now.

Sadly, I don't own a home yet, but I do move a lot for work. If you are asking net worth, it is about 200k, 300 if you include IRA, which I don't. Better than most people in their early 30's but could be better, mainly just saving up for a house. I am doing the barbell strategy (high/low risk balance) because it saved me a lot of grief from the last crypto bust in early 2018.

Dump shitty fucking bonds they have a negative return after inflation.
Buy precious metals or commodities instead.

80% equities
10% bonds (short term, I series, TIPs)
5% precious metals
5% speculative fun

For equities targeting 50/50 domestic/international

But I’m closer to 70/30 right now and building the foreign through contributions

I’m kind of scared of inflation. Depending on how scared, I might move 5% equities into TIPs or PM
