Theres this bullshit called the "kiddie tax". Essentially it tries to limit parents from putting assets in their children's name so they can avoid taxes. But for some reason this shit includes unemployment and scholarhsips.

So basically now theres tens of thousands of zoomers who were on unemployment who need to come up with thousands to give to the IRS EVEN if they already had their federal tax withheld.

Yeah everyone has to pay federal taxes (theres an option for them to automatically take it out) and I think some places require state but not sure. This is about dependents aka people under 18 or full time students under 24 who lost their job and are now getting taxed twice for being a "kid". Thats the thing I personally dont know many students who can fork over thousands to the IRS so who knows
