What is a landlord's value to society?

Landlords essentially use the BTC strategy, just HODL, but instead of a meme coin they are hoarding a real thing that society depends upon.

Prices keep rising and eventually normies will be unable to live. Why is this bubble allowed?

People who build housing are ok, they can sell as expensive as they want, they have actually contributed something of value. But some boomer who bought cheap and sells high is worthless as a person? let alone some waste of oxygen that didn't even buy, but inherited a property

There are usually two middlemen between the producers and consumers of rental real estate.

>builder takes risk purchasing materials and hiring staff to build a house
>bank takes on risk to loan money to landlord to purchase house in exchange for interest on loan payments
>landlord uses mortgage takes on risk to permit usage of this housing to a renter (renter is protected by tenant laws) in exchange for rental payments

What's the difference between a middleman and specialized member of the economy? I think if banks were competent enough to build out their own rental payment infrastructure/system then we could cut out small-time landlords. I also think if home ownership, loans, and rental payments were easily usable by home builders, then we could cut out the banks as well.

This type of problem is something Chainlink and Ethereum are trying to solve.

landlords provide liquidity to a housing market, purchasing properties when no one else wants to buy them, and providing housing solutions when homes are later in high demand
