The only reason BSC is able to have low fees is because it's centralized. Rather than independent validators who need to make ends meet, and therefore the gas fees adjust accordingly, the validators are all just owned by CZ and operate at almost total loss, because they're just a small subsidy of the larger company. Think of it the same way that Microsoft lost money on Xbox for a decade or more, but was able to do that because it was just a small part of the company.

Of course, this renders the entire idea fucking pointless. What's the point of "CeDeFi" without decentralization? That's the entire purpose of using blockchain tech in the first place. If I just wanted to use a centralized system, I'd use a centralized lending platform, or a centralized exchange. Why bother LARPing on-chain with that stuff at all?

For exchange services (token swaps), doesn't this just mean he's running a CEX implemented using a local ethereum instance? Which seems suboptimal if you want to run a CEX, you could just use a database.
For smart contracts, what smart contracts would want to rely on a centralized execution network? Then you might as well just change your name to Fidelity, run the centralized execution network network yourself and implement your "smart contracts" in Java.
A non-decentralized execution environment is not some new invention - it's what we used to have before we knew better!

They could do the same, but because eth is decentralized the miners need to achieved democratic consensus in order to make changes to it. I think there was even a recent proposal to make gas fees on eth way cheaper, but the greedy miners voted against it (since they are the ones that get the fees).

This is why I love what CZ is doing, for the first time ETH actually has a working competitor. If enough people leave eth to bsc to the point that it starts hurting the miners bottom line, we might actually start to see real changes happen to try to fix etherium's gas problems.

They need real competition to serve as a reality check to get their asses into shape. I feel the same way about ADA/DOT/AVAX (minus the chinkshit scam part).

Also, the miners will have to capitulate and accept reality. If they don't, then eth dies, and they don't get any fees at all. If they accept the lower fees, then the network will continue to grow and be used, and they'll gain more fees overall from more network participation.
