ripple has invested a lot to build liquidity and partnerships along different currency pairs and digital assets
its main strategic advantage is the infrastructure already built around the xrpl, and that allows the xrpl to be used as a exchange liquidity module (which they have the patent for), and with the addition of flare liquidity for pristine collateral
making a fork or private xrpl might be fine, but it makes a lot of their work building the infrastructure and investment around ODL and building this liquidity to waste
if you look into how the eurodollar system works (look into Jeffrey Snider) who knows the ins and outs of the system, he has spoken about how building a system that will fix issues with the Eurodollar at 5-10 year project just to build the liquidity and infrastructure required
