I agree, if you aren't convinced, just take a look at the iota's github.

It has like 10-100 times the amount of code compared to virtually any other crypto project all-the-while it isn't even in the top 10 mcaps.

also it still has active devlopment. some top coins haven't had any work done on them since the last crypto crash, and they are still portrayed as the vanguard of crypto.

Yes everybody can run a node. In 4-6 weeks a HUGE breaking mainnet update will be released (Chrysalis) with two new, functionally identical, nodes (Bee and Hornet). You can play with them on the Chrysalis testnet in between.

Spam gets countered by a little POW, however the Tangle is very scalable (1000tps) and with every transaction you must validate 2 previous once.

I´m 100% sure this is possible with smart contracts, since they are Turing complete. The upside of IOTA smart contracts compared to ETH would be, that it has fixed fees that are defined at creation of the smart contract and wouldnt suffer from congestion in other parts of the network.

Also IOTA Foundation is creating good tooling so everybody can play around and create smart cotnracts. This will take until Q3 though (even though Smart contracts can already be used now)
