We're barely able to send 2 fuckers into space and back safely, and that took the efforts of a private company that's pretty much based on the whims of one dude. Asteroid mining is nowhere near in our lifetime, and even if it was possible who the fuck would spend billions of dollars and years of research and risk to bring a material to earth that would become worthless by virtue of its own existence? Once it's brought here, gold and silver become worthless, right? Then what's the fucking point of bringing it? You're not gonna profit too much off it, and certainly not enough to justify the time, money, and effort put in.

Yukari anon, another EE here, remember if you try to test the electrical properties of your silver that AC testing won't work the way you think it will due to skin effect. At high frequencies, you'll basically only be testing the surface which could let plated coins slip by. Furthermore, getting good AC contact is going to be a bitch and you'll probably get more reflections from the coin-probe interface than any irregularities in the coin.

DC testing is probably a better bet, though non-destructive test is not my field of expertise so not 100% it's practical. To get an actual conductivity measurement to compare to the conductivity of silver, you'd need to calculate the effective cross sectional area, so comparative (good coin / bad coin) measurement seems your best bet. Good luck.

Ebay stats for today, silver close price added. Slight slowdown in buying today.
Now that the close price is added you can clearly see the disconnect in the real silver price and the comex price. Even on days when there's no change they seem to raise the price of silver on ebay, while most actual trading sites keep the price the same.

practically speaking, it's very unlikely to ever be profitable to mine something in space that already exists on earth, and then transport it back to earth. helium 3 or something like that would make sense because it doesn't exist on earth, but gold and silver? no. of course we will eventually mine on places like mars, but it will be for local use, so we're not shipping heavy metals around the solar system.

You can actually find 1 oz rounds for around 36 dollars on there but normies don't scroll down or search for what's cheapest so it's always the expensive ones at the top.

Im trying to decide if i should just go for an operators license here to learn how to use heavy equipment. or if i should go get an MSHA or OSHA certification and try to get into the regulatory / inspection side of things.

I love our planet but I also love diggin in the dirt looking for shiny shit.

When is it going to be profitable? That's the only question you should be asking. We didn't send a man to the moon for economic reasons, we did it to wave our giant dick at the soviets at enormous costs.

Asteroid mining will only become a desirable way to acquire minerals when the need for such minerals outpaces what we can produce here on Earth. There may be substances that we can't get here in large quantities that are critical to whatever large project we're undertaking at the time, and what we know as precious metals today then become a byproduct of acquiring such a substance. We're not going to be spending tens of trillions building infrastructure just to collapse the price of the thing we're trying to acquire.

Thing is, if you take 16 Psyche, look at how far away it is. To be able to commercially mine any planetary body we would need it to be much, much closer to infrastructure. The easiest way would be to knock it out of its orbit and send it into a geosynchronous orbit either around the Earth or the Moon, which at that point would be the base of operations for any space-based exploration/economic venture. This would take years or decades to accomplish, because it would need to make multiple trips around the sun until it comes close enough to be nudged into where we want it. Mining it out there in the asteroid belt is completely unfeasible unless we become a mid-stage Type 1 civilization with easy access to the solar system. We will probably mine asteroids before then, but likely not large ones like 16 Psyche.

As for how long? SpaceX took about 17 years between inception and sending live astronauts into LEO. That's with 60 to 70 years of rocket engineering expertise already done for them to go off of. It takes 5 years for a small probe to make it to Psyche 16. It will take many, many decades.

It really depends on how living on the moon and mars goes. Astronauts already have issues when up there for 2+ months. Totally different planets and gravities will do god knows what to our bodies. And until we can keep someone off planet for 2+ years is when real mining operations could begin but even that is 40 years out.

Asteroid mining is millenia away. The global IQW is dropping too fast, and we've missed our window for colonizing the solar system.

Once everything collapses (read: slow decline in tech and research as humans become too stupid to figure out even existing tech) selection pressures for intelligence will re-emerge. Maybe our great-great-great-great-great-great-grandchildren will seize the opportunity.

Think about the feasibility for more than 2 seconds. We landed on the moon 60 years ago, and not much has happened since. Asteroid mining is science fiction and really, a boring topic, because it doesn’t exist and will not exist. Ever. We are more likely to be depopulated to 500,000,000 people than even begin to realistically plan asteroid mining. It’s just silly, and like I said, boring.

I don't know too much about it, but I know a ton of money is being made in that field (pun intended) right now. I'd imagine DR Horton and the like have reps to deal with the subs, but I would imagine most of them outsource to specialty impact services. Depending on where you are, you could go to a bar in a farming area near bigger cities or transmission lines and ask around. Places like Okeechobee, Sebring, etc. Try cold calling some smaller sub contractors to. Cattle land is being consumed en masse and a lot of the land is shit for buildings. Maybe try calling some smaller development firms/very high end, small wealth management firms. There are a lot of rich families buying up farmland near big cities for this reason and you'd be able to help them avoid landmines (so many puns)

>>28818927
I agree, only because dropping asteroids on both of those places means we will stop wasting our tax dollars on stupid social justice programs in universities and pumping out entire generations of social studies majors working for minimum wage instead of focusing our resources on advancing our civilization, not regressing it towards simple tribal divergences. The amount of money we could allocate to actual productive endeavors by just refusing to capitulate to a bunch of communist crybabies would get us way farther as a species.
The chinks are literally biding their time, they don't need to do anything but wait for the last bit of common sense to die off in the West - and at this rate, it will. In the meantime they're educating and integrating their people, not in fall-of-empire sociology made-believe bullshit but in real science.

>>28820534
The mining itself will probably all be done by robots with small crews simply there for maintenance (until they're self-maintaining) and to oversee operations, so they could work in shifts.

Also the biggest threat to space colonies is space radiation. It doesn't affect us because of the magnetosphere but Mars and the Moon don't have that luxury, so either we build underground or we need to find good ways to shield our colonies from it. We have somewhat decent ways to beat all other difficulties with the technologies of today, except for the loss in bone mass despite the vigorous exercise astronauts go through in the ISS.

> Elizabeth Hill Silver Project: Airborne Magnetic Survey has been completed and data captured in the eastern area and combined with the western areas, the whole of which is currently being processed and analysed by Southern Geoscience; The JORC compliant Mineral Resource at Elizabeth Hill Mine was completed by Iana Ltd. in 1999 for 46,800 tons at 2,450g/t silver (86 Oz/t) for 4.05m Oz contained silver; As announced on 14th December 2020, planning is underway to re-enter the historic Elizabeth Hill underground mine which was mined between 1998 and 2000 via underground mining, primarily between the 62 metre (m) and 102 m levels. Silver production totalled approximately 16,800 tonnes of ore grading 2,195 g/t Ag (70.24 Oz/t Ag) generating 1,170,000 ounces, including some very large specimens of native silver; Direct underground drilling on the target zones will prove more effective than surface drilling of this target, given there are already workings to provide access, to facilitate defining the remaining resource and the potential untested new mineralization; An initial trenching program to commence as soon as possible with the aim of identifying at surface native silver and new silver targets. The Nueva Andromeda permit lies contiguous to San Celso to the south east containing the extension of the mineralised Nueva Andromeda vein that has already been identified in the San Celso permit. Indications of historic mining all along this vein exist and so the coming field mapping and sampling is planned to better understand the potential of this extension.

Yields going up means the value of the bonds is going down.
The gov is borrowing eye watering amounts of money on the promise of low interest rates to keep payments low, the fed is injecting hundreds of billions every month to keep interest rates down (by buying bonds, making value go up, causing yield to go down). The fact that yields are still going up despite the fed pumping hundreds of billions to keep it low is a sign that the gov/fed are losing control of the situation.

I got into PMs 10 years ago during the last big bull run and I remember being concerned with the astroid mining fud. Stopped paying attention to metals for a decade. About a year ago I realized we're not on a spinning ball and the moon landing is fake. Then it dawned on me recently as I'm getting back into metals that I never need worry about muh asteroid mining, since there are not and will never be "asteroids" for us to mine. Whatever is currently in the ground is all there is left to find, unless I suppose we master alchemy.

Blue Lagoon holds the Onion Mountain property, a massive copper porphyry structure, however its too early stage to be a mine in time for a copper boom. Its been continuously explored for copper since the 70s, I remember walking around there at the age of six with my dad watching the diamond drills work. Its a huge deposit, but it would need the 5-10 years planning to get running as an open pit mine. In the past it was snubbed due to easier to access deposits like the Huckleberry mine or Red Chris to the north. It will become a mine some day, but I dont see it becoming one fast enough. Surge would probably have a better chance actually, its closer to existing infrastructure which could service such a mine.

Asteroid mining is not feasible without a space elevator. A space elevator cannot be built by the private sector unless there exists a public-private partnership with a developed nation that has an existing space program. Even then, the private sector still probably cannot build a space elevator, as up-front costs would be in the hundreds of billions, potentially up half a trillion. We have had the technological capability to build one for decades, but not the capital or a willing government. So when someone brings up asteroid mining, take them to task about how, specifically, step-by-step, it could be done without a space elevator in a cost-effective way.

Idk... I feel like you just break it up into the right size chunks such that it is large enough that it doesnt vaporize in the atmosphere, and small enough that it doesnt impact TOO hard, then drop it in the middle of a desert.
Or alternatively refine it in space and drop big spheres of metal. Again not too big or too small, into a desert.

But, I mean yea, itll be a while. A 100 years minimum.
