Answer me: if you spend $1500 on mining hardware, roughly how much monero would you make monthly?
If the answer is less than 2, then it is not profitable.
If you spend $1500 on hardware for mining ETH, you can gain .25 ETH per month, which you can then sell and buy 2 XMR at current prices.

Believe me I hope monero goes 10k+, but assuming that doesn't happen for a few months you would make multiple times the amount of monero if you mine ETH and sell it, than if you just mined the monero itself.

I mine monero speculatively. I think mining helps give you perspective on just how difficult it is to actually produce coins and will help inform your trading decisions.

I mine with about 35KH of power. Sometimes I bump it up to about 45KH.

I think it's worth doing for the knowledge and the clarity it gives you. If you can just break even at current prices I still think you should. This coin is going to $500 absolute minimum in the short term and probably way higher long term.

Also, you were supposed to be mining this BEFORE it spiked in price. If you do start mining it don't be a retard and forget to keep mining.

Another thing to consider is how long your mining equipment will remain relevant. A 3900x will be earning a profit on xmr long after eth goes pos. If you can time it well, mining eth on gpus now and selling your equipment just before eth goes pos might be the best plan.

been mining w/ a 3900x since randomx went live with the intent to not sell any for ~5-10 years, currently have ~5.5xmr from mining. for comparison, i mined btc 2013-2014 with the same intent and the daily dollar value and daily btc/xmr values more or less line up with my 2013-2014 experience. i think its at least plausible that its on track for ***similar*** returns in the same timeframe. current speculation is that xmr will top around 10k this cycle, probably a bit less, given its previous ath compared to btc.

buying in bear markets and holding would have been more profitable but i still think there is utility in having at least a small amount of hardware to mine in a more speculative manner than simply mining what is the most profitable at the time and dumping immediately. also, my hardware is still worth what i bought it for, and this happened both in 2013-14 and now.
