First thing, learn how blockchain tech works. Then learn how various cryptos work, what problems they address, how they solve them, how the network works, etc.
once you understand this it will be much easier to select cryptos to invest in. Don’t be a retard normie who has no idea what crypto actually is just buys shit like Dogecoin because of memes and the belief that “doge go up.” Buy into things because you think they do something useful and have actual value

I can’t speak on XLM, but yes LINK is a good choice. It’s a juggernaut.
Algorand is also a good project. It’s not guaranteed to take off but it has a better chance than most.
The one I hold that I am most confident in is Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR). Look into it. It is promising
