The energy it uses could cost more than you make

The short version: don't bother, you won't be able to mine anything right now

The long version: You have two options for mining, BTC and ETH. To mine BTC, you need to buy dedicated hardware, known as an ASIC, they costs thousands of dollars and the returns are like $2 a day.

You can mine ETH on graphics cards, but they need to have at least 4gb of memory. If you have a single 1080ti you can probably make like $5 a day at current prices.

Both GPU and ASIC mining consume huge amounts of power, so unless your power is paid for by someone else (condo fee/student housing), your $2-5 will turn into $1-2.5

Oh and, good luck finding even a 1060 for sale right now, GPU stock is fucked. Same goes for ASICS

Honestly only worth it if you live in a place with snow like 1/2 the year.
You can use the shitty mining things to warm you up while you make money and naturally cool them.

Mine shitcoins that'll spike up 1000x. Only do this two years ago, or two years from now. Just invest in something rn, mining is stupidly expensive rn with an upside that isn't worth it. Gpu prices could crash the moment amd release some shitty card.

You can stake your coins but you risk il if it boms, meaning you lose your stake.
If the price rises only thing you lose is potential gains you could have gotten if you hodl instead.
Currently staking radix for about $18k total at current price in 2 months. original stake was 20k.

Doesn't matter what the coin is, getting started with mining right now is going to be super difficult because everyone is doing it and prices on hardware are hugely inflated. The Chinese are even buying up gaming laptops in bulks to mine.

The only way it's still worth it is if you have at least like 30k to spend on a serious setup, and you resell your hardware before the inevitable crash
