The thing with retiring in goa, is that you can travel to different states and see how drastically things change, from the type of people to the living conditions. Depending on how old you are, I am guessing, you are over 30 years. that is potentially another 40 years that you have to live without any income. If you can generate some income, you wouldn't need that much money honestly. And depending on how ghetto you want to get, you can get by with 1-2 million dollars for 40 years. 5 million figure is for absolute balls to wall hedonism, your mileage may vary.

But most of the signs are in english, mostly everyone under the age of 40, should understand english on some level(this is case for kerala). My impression is Malayalam and Kannada are descended from Sanskrit but that Tamil and the other Dravidian languages are totally different.

Also I don't know a word of it now, just saying I like learning and reading and speaking new languages. Working on Persian now and I have basic French.
